I was in Ouray a few years ago in a cage, but don't remember that highway name. I suppose it refers to the view not the actual cost? The government here (B.C.) just finished upgrading the Sea-to-Sky Highway to Whistler at a cost of $600 million (or about $9.5 million per mile)--and that was an upgrade of an existing highway. So either it's a lot cheaper to build roads in Colorado, or it's a really short highway! biggrin.gif

That's awesome. We just rode the KLRs (Can I say that here??) over to Ouray via Engineer Pass from LakeCity! We were out for nine days of dualsport, and were in Ouray on the 4th.

The GF was telling me that I should take my new-to-me 2004 VFR back there and try it out before the summer ends. Don't have to tell me twice! :-D

The origin of the name Million Dollar Highway is disputed. There are several legends, though, including that it cost a million dollars a mile to build in the 1920s, and that its fill dirt contains a million dollars in gold ore. - from wikipedia

I've read it cost just over a million a mile just to resurface, your normal run of the mill 2 lane highway.

That 600 million they spend fro the Sea to Sky was money well spent. :fing02: the old nickname was Sea to Die hwy, not a whole lot of fun in the winter.
