You're definitely not an idiot!  Those are a royal PITA.   IIRC the side panel must be removed. There are tabs under the black trim on the  instrument cluster,  and there's a tab that fits under the cowl on the opposite side. Maybe there's a better way  - but I put some pressure in the groove to release the outer tab then sort of rorate it a bit inward to separate the peak from the cowl. Then it can be pulled out enough to separate the tabs under the inst. cluster. I've never used any tools to pry or otherwise lever it out - only hand pressure.   It's a complex movement that's not easy to put in to words.  I always feel like I'm going to break the piece,  but never have. It's somewhat nerve racking.  Like other design elements of Honda products,  it does not seem designed with ease of service in mind.

Thank you sir. You helped me figure it out. I got them out. Compared to a 5th Gen, the fairings and trims on a 6th are a royal PITA. I have now noticed both inner panels are missing. 🙄 Why, why do people do half assed crap.

Thanks again Cogswell,

Jeffrey

Everyone has a fancy nickname but me.😶
