1996 Vfr 750 Neutral Light Question

I have recently acquired VFR750, I am starting this thread so that I can ask a lot of questions from all of you experts:

1-Moment or second I hold on to clutch, 'neutral' light comes on and very hard to tell if bike is actually in neutral or no? Anyway to take care of it? Bringing the bike to neutral also seems challenging?

Bike has been dropped at 30mph from the PO. So I am trying to sort the bike and fix all known problems.

Thanks for the help.

I found a reference for the third generation bike. So check your wiring diagram and see if the neutral light also goes through the diode referenced here.

If it is not the diode I think it could also be the clutch switch if it were damaged and shorted inside but not positive about this. Is the clutch lever or switch damaged from the fall? Might be good to proactively change the switch in that case anyway.

Thanks, does anyone has a PDF copy of the manual? I have the imaged/scanned copy. Should I look in electrical section on page 265 and 266 off scanned version?

Do you mean a different file version from the downloads section of this forum?

That's correct, since I already have the scanned copy. No biggie, was wondering if one has a PDF(easier to search for a keyword :D).

I would have to test the diode, maybe? Because i just checked while bike is off and if I pull in the clutch, neutral doesn't change at all, light stays on and if I change gears(while bike is off) neutral light goes away. Not sure if it has anything to do with bike running and side stand?

Right you can test the diode before deciding to replace it. You might have a hint like obvious burn marks or discoloration but not necessarily.

I tried running that image PDF through Acrobat OCR but the creator protected it with a password, which does not allow OCR :(

Yes, the sidestand switch must be in that circuit. I read in one of these cases that putting it down does alter the behavior.

Is there anything in the service manual on this? I never know if there are risks or caveats as I haven't done this.

You need a multimeter and probably should remove it from the circuit. Here are general instructions for testing a diode.

Any moderator can provide us the password? It'll help everyone in the community. Any idea how can I test the diode? Or more like rule out if something is wrong or bad?

You can IM the guy that dropped the manual file there. The user is shown right next to the files. Of course we do not know if he is active today. You can also start a post in the forum for this generation of bike and ask for a version with searchable text.
