Member Contributer vfr350 Posted September 28, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted September 28, 2015 So had a nice 200 mile ride yesterday (got 52mpg which shocked me, even for a lazy ride) in which i noticed a little buzziness or vib that ceased if i pulled the clutch in at speed, and reving the motor while the clutch was in would not reproduce. My chain looks to be in good shape and is mantained, is it possible that I might be running a bit to much tension? I have never replaced the rubber pucks in the sprocket hub but i dont remember them being worn or dry rotted last time chain and sproket swap few season back. Its certain nothing new just not taking enough long rides to notice. Thoughts?
enzed_viffer
Yes, it might well be a bit tight; mine was the same last week and better after I loosened it a bit. You will notice the dampers in the hub only if they are very worn, and then only when getting on/off the throttle, as there is more slop between the sprocket and hub. The cush rubbers should only need replacing every 5 or 6 years or so, unless you are hard on/off the throttle.
Member Contributer BusyLittleShop Posted September 29, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted September 29, 2015 Even though an 90º V4 sports perfect primary and second balances theystill vibrate to some degree and the one thing to eliminate if youfeel more vibrations or hear an odd rattle is a loose exhaust systembecause it will amplify any of those vibrations to an annoyinglevel... tap the pipes with the palm of your hand to test if any boltspoints or connections are loose... also check the foot pegs bolts andanything bolted to the foot pegs... A chain running too much tension will moan...
