Member Contributer Terry Posted October 5, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted October 5, 2014 Just a quick question for you all, I noticed tonight that there is a bit of free-play in the rear brake calliper mount on my 99 VFR. I can grab the calliper and it will move maybe 0.5-1mm back and forth, plus a little side to side play. The free-play is coming from the mounting bracket which is attached to the hub bearing carrier. I see there are heim joints on the torque arm so Honda have made allowance for movement/misalignment, but I wondered if that much free-play is present on other bikes? Other than the free-play the brakes are just fine. The free-play is not coming from the sliding pins, just the calliper mount.
aokman
Mine has a bit of freeplay, the caliper mount seems to be held on the hub by a circlip and the torque arm so it would never be snug :)
Member Contributer Mohawk Posted October 5, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted October 5, 2014 It's supposed to move its a sliding caliper, on a swing plate which is connected to the swingarm with an anti torque arm. There is play in there by design. So long as all bolts are tight then ignore it.
