Member Contributer MaxSwell Posted February 6, 2012 Member Contributer Share Posted February 6, 2012 I'm not sure if it was local or national but some motorcycle safety council put out a conspicuity campaign that assigned points for various things that add to a rider being conspicuous to other motorists, like lane position, etc. There were about a dozen items on the list, each awarded one point. Except for helmet color. Wearing a white helmet was worth FOUR points. Non-scientific observation: in six years of riding, averaging 18,000 miles a year, I've never come in contact with a cage. I've worn a white Shoei modular for five of those years. I do not consider myself a conservative rider. Perhaps semi-aggressive. I usually ride with a grey 'stich with hi-vis panels or an all black Transit suit. One thing I did notice when my daughter was a passenger. She had picked out a pair of bright lime-green gloves. When she was making arm signals for slowing, turning, or lane changes, her gloves repeatedly caught my eye (mirrors or peripheral vision). Coincidentinally I always wear yellow elk skin gloves and feel they help with the conspicuity thing.
