Member Contributer Ryanme17 Posted May 11, 2009 Member Contributer Share Posted May 11, 2009 Laden down with camping gear for the week. Silver Lake, outside of Hart, MI. I didn't stop to climb on the dunes this time. Onto Pentwater, gotta stop for a duck crossing sign. Plenty of roads right next to Lake Michigan along M-22. A monument to the World's Largest Cherry Pie just outside Traverse City. I can't believe I ate the whole thing! Next stop was North of the Mackinac Bridge, if you look closely you can see it in the background. I was nervous about crossing that much grating in the wind, but it wasn't too bad that day. World's Best or worst tourist trap, take your pick. The World Famous Mystery Spot! Heading East along the Lake Superior shore. One of my Favorite Pictures! Yep, I'm in the UP... Suddenly it began to rain! Still a beautiful day, and without a little rain... You can't have a rainbow! When I stopped to get this picture of my bike and the rainbow my bike lurched to the side while on the stand... I thought it must've slipped on the pavement. But at this point I realized it was leaning farther than it should... Hmmm, strange. And at this point I realized one of the bolts that holds the sidestand in had fallen out along the road somewhere, that's why it was leaning! This is about half an hour into the sunset. This picture must've been like 3 hours later, I swear the sunset lasted that long. Almost there! I have a weird obsession with drinking fountains, so my friend who I was visiting had to show me this! And yes, I packed shorts, but no sandals, just my riding boots... oops. Some beautiful country up there. But plenty of deer to look out for! On the trip up I had followed the Southern Coast, so on the way back I'd stay North for a while. Only to find this! Merry Christmas? Yep, welcome to Christmas. Waterfall #1. Which you could walk behind. Random waterfall #2. Man, they seemed to be everywhere! I got close, but couldn't get behind this one. This is in the pictured rocks area. The previous picture was taken from that observation deck. I had to do a bit of hiking. And a little bit of reading. Nothing like nature and Thomas Merton to lift one's spirits on a gloomy day. Until it started to rain again. Which made this. I didn't really want to head back into the lower peninsula...

Member Contributer Cageless-in-Seattle Posted May 14, 2009 Member Contributer Share Posted May 14, 2009 Thanks for the pic's. Rode my sv650 across the Mackinac bridge during my 2005 trip to PA. I kept thinking my front tire would get caught in the grating or I'd get blown off the bridge from the wind gusts. Great memories riding in the UP.
