Member Contributer trekman5 Posted May 9, 2009 Member Contributer Share Posted May 9, 2009 Just added heated grips, 12v powerlet, RAM mount, and wheel tape tonight. Changed oil, filter, and coolant while at it. According to other comments, apparently I'm supposed to burp my baby tomorrow morning after the coolant has settled... Sorry for the double link post, I'm still trying to figure out how to post pics within bulletin board rather than a link. So the 2nd one was a test. In process of working on bike, came across a strange tool hanging loose under the seat. No clue what it's for. Any ideas? It's the one under the wrench.
Member Contributer magicman Posted May 9, 2009 Member Contributer Share Posted May 9, 2009 That's the extension that goes on the spanner wrench. The big angry C shaped one with the couple random teeth. It's used for adjusting the chain tension, changing preload on a non ABS bike, and holding your tank up. Beck
You also use that extension on the end of the tire lug wrench (insert the rounded end on the wrech handle) to get more leverage. The flattened part makes for a comfortable area to push pressure from your hand/palm on You can even put you boot sole on it for removing stubborn tight lug nuts. According to other comments, apparently I'm supposed to burp my baby tomorrow morning after the coolant has settled... I would do more than burp it. Just my opinion on the thermostat failures on the VFR, I think they are a result of improper burping causing the thermostat to be in an air pocket making it over heat and fail; it is at, or near, the top of the coolant system. I put mine on the side stand, leave the cap off and let it idle until it heats up past 180 degrees, that takes a loooong time and you lose some coolant, not a big deal. Then shut it down and top it up.
