Veefer800Canuck
HID lighting in a non-HID housing is sketchy at best. The reflector shape is not designed for HID capsules, and the beam dispersion pattern can be less than optimal. Problem being, the cutoff is very high and blinds oncoming drivers. Most HID retrofits force you to lose the lowbeam function. A few setups will use an auxiliary halogen bulb piggybacked to the HID capsule for dual-beam operation, but again, capsule placement is not optimal. Then there is the "shuttered" bulb that uses a sliding shutter to alternate between low and high. Not sure if those are reliable or not, but they probably suffer from the same dispersion woes as they are, once again, using the wrong headlamp reflector design, one that was designed and optimized for halogen bulbs. So for me, HID conversion is more about "what are you willing to lose?" Info: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bu...onversions.html
