Member Contributer CornerCarver Posted August 21, 2006 Member Contributer Share Posted August 21, 2006 I have just received a CBR600F3 front fork (which will be disassembled and gutted for parts), my gold valves, shims, and springs from Racetech and I am preparing to rebuild my front suspension. My question is should I do it now (the gains are to great to delay)? OR Wait until this winter when I can spring for a WP rear shock to go along with it (just raising the rear ride height with shims wont compensate for the much stiffer front end)? Any thoughts? Other info: 6', 215 lbs with a mildly agressive riding style, mounting new Pilot Powers before Deals Gap next month. 2001 VFR. :pissed:
Baileyrock
Both, if possible! I would suggest that you at least install a 929 shock on the rear with a stiffer(19-20 kg for your weight) spring on it in the mean time. It's a great mod for the 5th gen and the 929 shock can be had for $25 on ebay, all you have to do is make a short spacer and add a longer bolt to the top clevis mount at the frame. It's a far superior shock to the VFR and has Comp. & Rebound adjustments. Should cost no more than $150 total including a new spring to have a much improved rear to go along with your new front and maintain the bikes balance too! :pissed:

Baileyrock
Thanks for the advice. I will begin my search.keith Make sure it's a 929 shock and not a 954 shock. Many sellers think there the same and they are Not. The 929 is sprung the same as a VFR, but you should go stiffer on the rear if you stiffen the front for many reasons.

These are both 929 shocks, standard yellow spring and Erion model white spring. 929/954 shock

Member Contributer CornerCarver Posted August 22, 2006 Author Member Contributer Share Posted August 22, 2006 Thanks for the link, but if that's the only one out there, I'll sell you one of my cheaper! B) That one has the white spring that you said was Erion. Does that just mean that the bike was an Erion replica or is there an actual difference in springs rates? How much for yours. If I don't find anything before this weelend I am very tempted to buy it now on that one.

I couldn't find a difference in springs(using a dial caliper, wire dia.), but they do have different part #'s on the shock. Don't know if that's just for the Erion replica color change. I'd sell you one for $45 shipped if you don't have any luck finding a cheaper one!
