Is 38k miles a lot for a 1986 VF500F?

38K isn't necessarily a deal breaker on a 86....   but it doesn't help.

Why does this bike do something for you?  Have you always wanted a classic V4?  Is this your first bike?

Take your money elsewhere.  That's far too much for a very un-original VF500F with that mileage in that condition.

Well I had 65k miles on my 86 VF500 & it was thrashed hard & never had a problem.
The 86 was more reliable than the earlier models. That said I fitted a high pressure oil feed kit to mine at around 30K miles, it tapped of the main oil gallery & replaced the external oil line feed to the cams.
