I have an issue with the starter motor on the VF1000F. The starter motor engages and starts the bike without any problems. The issue is after I release the starter button the there is a rattle noise. It a bit like the starter is not disengaging... any ideas? Its different to the starter clutch issue I had with the 1991 VFR750F were the starter clutch does not engage. The problem is the noise after starting the bike witch last for a couple of seconds. I don't believe its the starter clutch.. but I have been wrong before.......

So I rode my bike into work and when I went to start her for ride home. Seemed like my battery was dead... no problem there’s a jump box... famous last words... I get bike started and ride home about ten minutes. Park. Next day go to start bike. No power. Smh look down and notice my harness from ignition and start stop switch are melted and grounded out... uh o... well it’s early spring and I had just put new tires on and recovered my saddle.... so I’m thinking I’ll band aid this and just re solder ... pull everything off start soldering then decide, maybe cheap is not the way to go... So I order an aftermarket ignition (still being cheap... fu*%&$) And put it and a used switch back on. Nothing no power lights at all.... Look at main fuse looks ok. Look through ignition info that came with it, realized that this ignition works w vfr but not wired/connected as such... unplug, finish soldering original toasty ignition. Plug in, Nothing... Well that was last year... Fortunately I have another bike so I was able to ride at least part of the season... (on my bike I don’t have a new set of tires on :(. ) So my question is.... 1.What might I have f’d up either by using a boost box to jump? 2. By shorting out with improperly wired aftermarket ignition 3. Other than main fuse any other fuses or electrical components I should test first? rectifier? computer? Thanks for any insight. Much appreciated!

Hey guys, 95 viffer here with 25k on the dash. very recently got the dynojet kit installed and carbs tuned. was running like a wild horse. got it done by Dave Koban, the mechanic of the famed Britton 1000. few weeks ago the bike died at a red light. had to push start it as the start button did nothing. now every time I start the bike I have to crank the throttle even with the choke pulled. I've got the plugs replaced about 2 years ago - NGK iridiums. what givses??

HI all, been riding my new to me '99 viffer for a couple months now and my first issue has popped up unexpectedly. Rode into work this morning, and when I went to leave, it wouldn't start. No dash lights, no fuel pump, no CLOCK! *(Although the clock was on up until i turned the key) I checked the battery voltage, while the key was off it was at 12.5V - and the terminals were tight and corrosion free. All the fuses around the battery were in good condition, as well as the big connector near the toolbag. What i noticed was happening was, when I would turn the ignition key ON the bike seemed like it was dead, not even showing the clock. Then turning it back OFF, the clock would come back - reset at 0100. The big red dummy switch was in the correct position too!! Im thinking some wires are damaged in the key ignition cylinder??? But I feel that I would have had some intermittent issues before this. This is sudden and throwing me for quite a curveball..... Thanks a bunch for any help !!! -Dave

I have a 2007 VFR with ABS, recently it has started acting up when I try to start it once it's warmed up. When I start it first time in the morning it starts normally, starts first time everyting nothing unusual. If I ride a little while, stop the engine and try to restart the motor it starts to spin then it's like the relay disengages and then reengages causing a loud noise/gear meshing sound then the bike starts up. The bike has a brand new battery that is fully charged, the bike has 16,400 miles. Once started it runs like new, never any other problems with the bike. I bought it in 2010 when Honda had them new in warehouses and was selling them discounted. All ideas and help appreciated. Thanks, Tom
