Chief Joseph Scenic Byway This isn't a great time of year for riding in my neck of the woods so I thought I'd share this short video for the rest of you unable to enjoy getting out for a ride. Hope you like it. Btw, the funky framing is my fault for setting the horizon with the bike on its side stand - d'oh! A month after buying my new-old-stock '09 VFR800 I was winging my way south en route to Laguna Seca. But as usual on my trips I took the shortcut, this time via Yellowstone NP. Day 4 we left Cooke City for a ride over Beartooth Pass, then backtracked so we could ride over Chief Joseph Scenic Byway (Hwy 296) on our way to Cody, Wyo., for breakfast. About 22 km/15 mi east of Cooke City on US212 is the junction with Chief Joseph highway which runs another 74 km/45 mi before terminating at Hwy 120. Cody, Wyo. is a short 25 km/15 mi south. Chief Joseph does't get as much attention as Beartooth Pass, perhaps because it has a more open feel, but the scenery is stunning especially on bright morning like we had. Having ridden it both directions I think the view is better eastbound, but both are equally fun to ride.

From the album: my trips
In the fall of 2004 I bought this '92 VFR. It had about 40K km then and when I took this shot in early '07 that was up to 70K. By then I had stripped the paint from the fork legs, repainted the wheels from the original silver, fitted the UK market graphics, and added the very same Supertrapp can I'd had on my '91 10 years before. After 4½ years and 55K km I sold it and bought my 3rd VTR1000F. I see a pattern forming.© Lorne Black

After months and months of anticipation, I finally headed out on my solo trip out west. 21 Days, 10 National Parks and 7,248 miles later, I returned home last Friday. Incredible, amazing, and unreal are all fitting adjectives to describe this trek. Seeing some of the most beautiful landscapes on the planet is a humbling experience and it gave me a new perception of what really matters. Below are some photos from my phone. However, I will be posting mostly "real" photos from my Olympus EM5 in the report. I rode my 2007 Honda VFR800, a truly amazing bike that never quit. Maybe my next trip will be on a Commando? Clearing skies in the Grand Tetons A long but surreally beautiful day across the Hi-Line in Montana Many Glacier area of Glacier National Park, Swiftcurrent Lake. Monument Valley. So cool. I couldn't get enough of Montana. It's a dream. More Teton awesomeness. Chicks keeping me up all night. Glad I got a chance to see these guys close up. Sometimes you need to put your bike in the hotel room Camping at Muley Point This report will be photo heavy!
