The plug that connects my stator to my regulator rectifier burnt up... (3 yellow wires) I just bought a new stator a month ago, it has been working fine, but then I smelt something burning on my bike. I checked the wiring harness and the connection from the stator to the R/R is burnt on one prong. (again, 3 yellow wires) I checked the stator continuity and they are all 0.7 ohms between the 3 wires. They are not grounding out on the bike at all. Should I hardwire the stator to the R/R or buy a new connection? If I hardwire it, does it matter which yellow wires I connect from the stator side to the R/R side?

$7800 I'm offering my beautiful Honda 750 V-4 Interceptor. This bike has a unique history — originally supplied by Honda UK as one of three Press Fleet bikes for the 1986 introduction of the new VFR Interceptor. Accompanied by a white and a red example, these three bikes were used for road tests, magazine shoots, etc. When that assignment was completed, a staff member of "Motor" magazine, Rex, requested to purchase one of the bikes. Honda agreed, and Rex chose the blue — this very bike. The following year Rex accepted a position with Ford in Detroit and shipped the VFR to Michigan. After lots of bureaucratic haggling the bike was successfully imported with a Michigan title. Rex kept the bike for the next 37 years and 18,000 miles till he offered it to me last year with the promise that I would refurbish it for its next 37 years and find its next caretaker. This VFR: With 18,161 miles, this bike has had a full mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment. My goal is always to retain as much originality as possible while bringing the bike as a whole up to whatever standard I can achieve — in this case I would put it at a 9 out of 10. ALL of the mechanical systems are inspected, repaired, replaced, rebuilt; whatever was needed (a partial list is below). Cosmetically, I chose to professionally repaint the wheels and both large side fairings along with several small parts. The rest of the paintwork is original, to my knowledge; color-sanded, buffed and polished. The bike has a few small flaws, which I photographed as well as I could and are included in a detailed photo album (see link below). The seat vinyl wasn't up to the rest of the bike so it was professionally recovered in the correct color and texture. The electrical system is inspected, cleaned and works flawlessly. This bike has the Euro handlebar switchgear with a few extra features, compared to the US models, and several other differences. The only significant modification are the aftermarket SuperTrapp slip-on mufflers. To import the bike, Rex needed to replace the mufflers with US-spec mufflers and in the ensuing years the originals were lost. These SuperTrapps are in near-perfect condition with hi-heat powder coat on the black pipes and many hours spent refurbishing the aluminum mufflers. They are tunable and I have the additional discs to allow future changes. And they allow that unique V-4 music — they sound great. My background: I've operated V4 Dreams (.com) for the past 15 years, rescuing and re-homing classic V-4 Hondas. This bike is #42 and will be one of my final projects. Included are all the importation documentation, my work & parts receipts, original UK owners manual, tool kit, Clymer service manual and two keys. The Illinois title is clear and clean, in my name. Some of the service items: Carburetors rebuilt/tuned/synced Spark plugs Valve adjustment Compression check Oil/filter change w/Honda oil Hardwired stator connector Full silicone coolant hose replacement w/Honda coolant New tires; Bridgestone BT46, original sizes Rebuild forks with Progressive brand springs Upgraded steering head bearings All hydraulics fully rebuilt; brakes, clutch Venhill stainless brake lines, in black OEM fuel petcock replaced, new fuel lines/filter Many misc. fairing fasteners replaced Disassembly to frame & engine, full detailing No disappointments, contact me with questions. Thanks for your interest. Joe joe.nelson@ymail.com Photos: https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBv3u8

With Ducati about to release a high-end V4 super-sports machine, is Honda with so much history with the V4 engine caught napping? So who is copying whom? Honda was accused of copying Ducati in the late 1990s producing the VTR series of bikes (sadly missed in their lineup today) and now that Ducati is producing a V4 does this vindicate Honda's belief of the perfect balanced bike? So why is Ducati abandoning is trademark 90 degree V-Twin engine? Has the Vee-Twin reached the economic limits of horsepower? Is the physical size of the engine now impeding handling? Are they losing their Vee-Twin capacity allowance in racing? Or are they getting a runaway problem with emissions? Your thoughts...?

Hello to everyone, first post! I'm on the cusp of purchasing an '86 VF500 and have a few questions of resto/moding. First just a little background. Purchased my first bike in 1981, a 1977 CB550K. Great bike, I even tried my hand at cafe. Came out pretty well, but with a wife and kids on the way, the justification of a motorcycle came to an end. Now, on wife number 2 and (collectively) 5 kids thru school, t's time to get back in the game. Over the past 5 years I have built 3 CX500's (cafe, resto, and a resto/mod). All three were head turners and I learned a lot in the process. Still have the resto/mod (fun bike) and it's quite a head turner for someone in the know. Long story short, I ended up with a flock of four '88 - '90 Honda HawkGT647's. Got one running and sold to a friend, parted one out, stripped a tired track bike of it's goodies and finished this build in early spring. What a great ride! It's an '88, with a '91 VFR rear wheel (hub modification) and an '09 CBR600RR front end among other items. Replaced every seal (coolant and oil), did a Stage 3 carb upgrade and added a Delkavic can, clutch springs, you name it. Beautiful bike that handles like a dream. A good friend of mine (rides an SV650) has had his crashed '85 VF500 stashed in his garage for 10+ years. Whenever the subject is breeched, he turns a cold shoulder to selling. So thinking ahead to the winter months, I've started a search of one of my own. Hopeful of finalizing the purchase of an '86 in the next day or so. Personally i think that paint scheme is the best of the breed. So I'm thinking a frame off cleaning/resto and possible mod. That would be in the form of a CBR front end, but not certain that's the way to go or not. I have a feeling the majority here would lean toward the OEM forks (Showa's i would assume?) to keep it period correct. What has been done to update these forks? Emulators? Do they work with the Trak anti-dive, or is that scrapped for emulators, springs, spacers and proper fluids? On to the rear, the GL500 used the same air can as the VF and I have access to seals. But are there rear socks that would eliminate the need for the outdated rear pogo? I put a Hagon on my Hawk, a tremendous step forward. I'm sure the track monkeys would go to a Penske or Olins, but I don't think I need to go that far ($). So I really don't want to stray too far from what the bike was (is). Like many of you, I'm certain, I'm a huge fan of the vintage and somewhat overlooked small displacement Hondas. IMO this bike is the pick of the litter (color scheme) and I know the little V4 is peppy and well designed. Your thoughts and input would be greatly appreciated! -tom
