Hi all, thanks for running and contributing to this awesome forum. I'm from a village in Quebec, Canada. Couple of weeks ago I acquired a 2003 VFR800 ABS with ~11 000 km (~7000 miles) on the clock. I hadn't understood the motor at first while test riding the bike, as recently I had had experience only with off-road thumpers and inline 4s, but a bit later it grew on me a lot and now I just love riding it. Also, I find the stock suspension is decent bordering on good 🤣 🤐. Initially I wanted to buy an ST1300, but now I definitely prefer the VFR as a long distance universal tourer, and a fun machine in general. The bike was in a pretty good condition in general thanks to low mileage, but of course I wanted to make it good all around. I replaced a partially rodent damaged air filter, changed oil (which still looked ok when drained) for Rotella T6 15W40 with a new filter, cleaned some blocked breather tubes, changed coolant with Honda antifreeze (old coolant looked like the same Honda stuff and was clean, but I did it just in case, and also cleaned the inside of the expansion tank from sediment). Cleaned the chain from some kind of whitish chain lube with kerosene and switched to gear oil, which in my experience is the way to go with motorbike chains. Sprockets look new . Also cleaned the calipers and installed new EBC pads, installed a couple of missing nuts and clips. Lastly got rid of the bar risers and beefed up the charging part of the wiring and cleaned and greased all electrical connectors I could reach. I'm planning to build an active RR myself and replace the OEM one. I've tested all major electrical components and for now all is good. A lot of things to do are still on the table, which can be good if you look at it at a certain angle, but the bike is a good runner already and I enjoy riding it in plentiful local twisties a lot.

Hello, I bought this Gear Indicator from Aliexpress (https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005001940822252.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.83.5defcaa4LK72vA&gatewayAdapt=glo2vnm) and installed it following the directions. When I turn the key to the 1rst position (engine not running) it should blink an (L) slowly but blinks fast. The "L" it's supposed to blink slow and when engine it's running should blink fast and than show a "1" to start learning. I can never get the "L" to flash slowly. If I only plug the 12v, positive and negative without plugging the "data" cable from de Diagnostic Plug the Indicator blinks slowly.... Could someone PLEASE help me figure this out? I would like to assemble the fairing to be able to ride. Any questions feel free to ask. (Sorry about my English. Not my native language.)

I am located in the Greater Toronto Area and I am looking to sell both the stock exhaust and the Staintune exhaust for my VFR800. How much could I get for it? I would prefer a local deal so there is lower sick of getting scammed online, but I am open to also selling online and shipping it? I thought I would ask you guys before I post with a price that is too low or too high.

I’m fortunate to have been able to ride from Florida to Colorado with a friend. He’s on a Ducati ST4S. We’re heading back later this week.

I'm essentially pulling a long dead topic out of the grave! My 2005 has widened its temp range over the last couple years. Most 20C/70F days on a highway ride it sits at 78C but in traffic the temp escalates quickly and hits fan cycle much more quickly than it used to. It used to sit at 82C and the fan hardly ever came on unless it was bloody hot out or super heat soaked. So, this spring I changed out the coolant for OEM and its still doing it, and now I've been thinking about starting to replace parts. It's tough to get unique parts like this particular thermostat around me however and the OEM stock is pricey to buy, plus shipping. As well, prices aren't coming down with parts for these bikes anytime soon, or ever. I've done some digging through this old topic Automotive thermostat replacement for VFR800??? and saw someone said a thermostat out of a "mid-90's Cavalier" worked in his. Well, I just happened to choose 1990 on rockauto.com and came across one for $4 US that has the right look from pictures (haven't opened mine up yet and probably won't until end of the season if I can avoid it). I also looked at the 1995 and its totally different with different P/N. The 1990 selection is HERE but there's only a couple that have a 80C/180F rated opening as a possibility. The one that is "Fail Safe" would be a bad idea because if it triggers then it has to be replaced yet again. Anyway, the MOTORAD 243180 might fit the bill or provide a cross-reference to still another manufacturer. The one issue seems to be that there is no jiggle pin/ weeping hole in that one. My understanding is the pin/hole is to let any air build up escape through the system but I'm not sure on that. However, a small drilled hole could serve the purpose while avoiding much coolant circulation or alternatively it wouldn't likely be too hard to fab up a small bolt to act as the jiggle pin equivalent. I'm just throwing this out there to see if anyone has any thoughts on 1) the cooling/heating issue I'm seeing 2) interest in discussing feasibility of this alternative and 3) if someone has the inclination to investigate this possibility because they're also in the same pickle.

Hello, New to the group and new to VFRs. Picked up a 2006 VFR with 8k miles. I got a Power Commander III to help with the dip in responsiveness/performance between 4k-6k RPM. Looking for someone to share a MAP to a PCIII or PC V that they run on their bike. My bike is stock with exception to the Power Commander. Any help would be awesome to get a MAP that someone is actually using or has experience with to upload to my bike. Any other suggestions for improving the performance I will gladly listen to. Thanks so much for the help and this group. Some really great content on here. Thanks!
