  1. Sorry, I don’t have enough for this to be a ride report. How do I move this post to another, more appropriate topic?
  2. I’m fortunate to have been able to ride from Florida to Colorado with a friend. He’s on a Ducati ST4S. We’re heading back later this week.

    Super shot.
  5. Dagnabit, mine's a 6th gen...can this get moved to the correct area?
  6. So, my bike was pretty nice for two months... :-/ I pulled into my garage today after work, and leaned the bike toward the sidestand...which I had not deployed. Major duh. Got it back up pretty quick, but it slipped a little while down so I have some new scratches, but I don't think any of the plastic cracked (wow). Feeling so dumb. I most often pull up to the closed garage door, park it on the sidestand, and then push it in after opening the door (leaving the sidestand down). Just did it different today. So, the left mirror stem broke; I'm thinking I'll just find a pair on eBay, unless someone has another suggestion. Or, is it worth trying to superglue the stem?
  7. Thanks, I think I figured it out. Also found it's missing one of the plastic clips, but it's not in a critical place. I used short bolts for the black V-section, and longer ones on the upper portions, because it seems they have more layers to grab up there. Back on the VFR! :-)
  8. Yes, it does, but I'm not clear as to which bolt lengths go with the A, B, and C types. The allen bolts I removed are two different lengths, and the type that is different under the head... I'm a stupe for not labeling or taking photos...
  9. Great, thanks. I thought it was a replacement non-original since others are push-in-the-middle type. (...Is there a guide here somewhere for which allen bolts go in which positions...? :-/ )
  10. Hmmm, I don't know how my post got here under Eighth generations, sorry!

  16. I'm trying to put my fairing back on my sixth generation. A couple of the Honda plastic pop rivets have been replaced by a different kind that looks like it has a flat head screwdriver head. Anyone know how to reset that kind?
  17. Thanks for the info, Cogswell.
  18. The one I hit is like a piston in a cylinder about a foot tall--you pull the piston up and it stays up, and it releases to return to a bottom position once it's pulled to the top. It was old and brown; I still have it around here somewhere. You know, from what I can see, the specs between my VFR and the Hurricane are close, but the Viffer feels stronger and more solid. The seating position is less severe on the Viffer. And this bike has much better-looking and non-cracked fairings!
  19. Cogswell, How urgent of a fix is it if it is a CCT?
  20. Hello, all. David here, and I'm still not quite believing that I once again have a bike, and that it's a red VFR! My first sporty bike was an '87 VFR (which was after my first bike, an '82 Yamaha Seca 650). That '87 was cool, but the plastic was cracking and broken in spots, and eventually I moved on to a '93 CBR F2 in purple and yellow - not an official Joe Camel version, but something a previous owner had done, which was good enough. Had a low-speed accident with that one (forward flip at about 40 due to hitting the bottom of a bottle jack) which totaled it, and then got my last bike before the present one, an '87 CBR1000 Hurricane. That bike developed some starting issues, so after 3 years of having it not running in the garage, I sold it to a friend who wanted a bike to work on and resell. Lately, I had been seeing more bikes at work, and after seeing some rides around $4K in price, I found an '04 VFR (with 38K miles) at a dealership and took it for a test ride. But I soon found an even better price on an '03 (with 34K miles) that I had to drive across the state for, but I really think it was worth it, even if I now have to do some maintenance on it, and today I was hearing an intermittent knocking-type noise (had only heard it when cold at point of purchase) that is a little disconcerting. (Thoughts from various friends are it might be a cam chain tensioner or valve adjustment needed -- any other ideas or warnings...? :-/ ) I had hoped to ride over to Daytona this weekend for Biketoberfest, but now I'm thinking it'd be better to change some fluids before riding too far with it--might go in a car instead. Glad to be here and back on two (V4-powered) wheels!
  21. and a introduction post . What's an introduction post? Like, who I am, how long riding, how cool it is to have a bike again?
  22. I ended up getting a red 2003 with 34K miles for $2650. Now to get it insured and registered! Thanks for your comments and thoughts, all.
  23. Orlando -- so not too far and some of the bikes you're looking at are in my area (Tampa). Ping me if you want a second set of eyeballs when/if you go look at the bikes over here. I'm not a mechanic but I've rehabilitated both a 2002 and a 2000 VFR. There's a really low mileage 2002 that is just over your $4K limit: http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/mcy/5208708042.html Now that I think about it, a friend of mine may be selling a 6th gen VFR. I'll ask him for details. I'm headed over to Clearwater tomorrow. Should be there about 11 to look at a 2003 with 34,000 miles!
  24. Thanks for all the replies! Knight, you really went above and beyond with your write-up; thanks very much! (I like 'em in red or yellow, I think.) I most recently had an CBR1000 Hurricane, that had not been running anymore. I've always like the VFRs, and do sometimes think the styling on the 5th gen is more attractive. I've found a couple of those, but the prices aren't lower, although I'm all for less complexity. I'd really like having some hard bags for sport-touring, but maybe I can find some deals on those later after buying one without them. I'm leaning toward the 2003 with 34K miles. Thanks again for your thoughts, all. I'm in the Orlando area.
