  1. Trygve - my blue connector fix wasn't in regard to this - there are lots of bigger brained vfr engineers that can guide you on these repairs. I can't get into my photo bucket either.   ( in regard to a pm I received)

  2. An inline fuse sis not in place on my bike - but I am responsible if something happens. I didn't want extra connections adding to potential voltage drop - so that's why I didn't use one. Others have used one so if you feel better by having it - go for it!!

  3. ***** Quick update - I have 6th Gen Solo Racks ready to go - and am still waiting for my powdercoater to let me know when I can get my order slotted in. Hope to have a more firm date for the 5th GEn folks real soon.

PM me for ordering info - and thanks for the nice comments about the useage of my racks - you guys can be ruthless when something fails - so it means even more when you give a glowing report!

Must be the time of year - two members ordered 6th gen racks in the last day or two - come on Spring!!!!

Self Serving Bump - and potentially life saving as well - if I don't get rid of these racks my wife is going to kill me!!! 5th and 6th Gen racks available....

  4. Hi All,
I'm in a similar situation right now. I have a 2002 VFR non abs, and this time I decided to visit my local Honda dealer for my yearly inspection. Inspection passed. Then they did a VIN check and discovered that both the wiring harness and the PCV valve recalls had not yet been performed. Parts were ordered so I took the bike home and returned it the next week. The PCV valve checked OK but, per Honda, they replaced the wiring harness. When I picked up the bike, a tech asked me when the low beam lights stopped working. He explained that the low beam lights were not working but the high beams were and said it shouldn't have anything to do with the wiring harness that was replaced. He suspected a faulty switch set which I've ordered and may install myself. I asked to see the old wiring harness and I took some pictures which I've attached here. After reading the recall notice, downloaded from VFRD (thank you!!), I was able to determine that no additional wiring harness replacements were necessary (no scorched connectors). I also inspected the old harness for any possible alterations (blue connector fix) that previous owners of my bike might have performed. There didn't seem to be any alterations.
My questions are, (1) could the new wiring harness and install of the new wiring harness affect the low beam lights and (2) would you suggest I have the dealer install the new switch set or take the chance of doing it myself, having it not fix the low beam problem and risk having the dealer point blame on me for the continued electrical problem, if one still exists.
    Thank you in advance,
    JRB

IF the dealer is messing with your wiring harness under a warranty / recall situation - have them do the repair to the low beams. Installing the switch set shouldn't take long - even if you have to pay the half hour of labour.

  6. 5th Gen Solo Racks are going back into production. I hope to have them in stock in April. Price will be in around the $155 USD range - and will include bolts, spacers, shipping and instruction sheet.

FYI - a package I sent to SIngapore NOvember 8 2014, just arrived today - 10 weeks later. SO for those that want one sent overseas from Canada - please be aware of shipping times.

I'll start a new thread once I get more definitive on a delivery date or the 5th Gen Racks. I still have 6th Gen racks for anyone that wants to buy one. $140 USD shipped.

  7. Very Nice - but I have 25 Solo Racks available - I could have just sold you one of mine..... I often use my Solo Rack as a spot for the tank bag. Works great.

(admittedly selfish bump to sell the racks I have before My wife kills me)

  8. Well, I put the IDLE back to 1200. For some reason, [when I set the Idle to 1800] the bike would hang at 3000 RPMs in I think 2nd or 3rd with no throttle input. I guess that little extra air, the fuel mapping, the ECU, FI, etc. all conspire to just not like a 1800 Idle.

So - I put it back down to stock 1200 and it rides perfectly now. Well it rides as it was designed. So my 12 page thread turns out to be what everyone told me - a waste of time! :)

I can take a beating. At least I know now and can let things be.

I actually read through your thread - and was curious what your end result would be. Good job on following it through to the end!! I'd also like to say good job on not flaming the members that sometimes appeared to have "less than encouraging comments" to throw at you - your diplomatic skills are clearly a strong attribute.

  9. Very interesting...... I've threatened myself for the last bunch of years to do the Modification that runs all four bulbs at once - but this is a mod that might be even more beneficial.

I believe that its illegal to run more than two head lamps at once (at least here in Canada it is) so if I'd done the 4 lamp system, and the law wanted to write me up - they could have.

Please continue to post up your results. Where are you mounting the ballasts - or are they internal?

  10. I had originally replied that I was going to try to make this ride. Well, to keep a long story very short - I lost in my attempt.

That weekend has me triple booked - and all at events that I'd rather miss. TMAC this year was fantastic to be with all you clowns, and I really wanted to be a part of this one.

If there is a miracle - I could swing showing up for Saturday night - only to leave first thing Sunday - but that would be sufficient to reconnect with you hooligans. FIngers are crossed - but it doesn't look good for me to get to the ride. ENjoy yourselves - and I hope TIMMY makes another movie or 12 to document the trip!

  11. My 6th gen came with a hugger, but I don't like it. Need to make an Ebay ad, but I don't even know which model it is? Very sturdy with steel brackets, but it doesn't replace the factory chain guard, it goes above it.

  12. Kaldek - I have to ask you this - the high idle at start up - could that be the wax unit acting up? From what I know of the wax unit - it can get clogged and restrict coolant from flowing through it which causes it to high idle. Might be coincidental - but maybe that the cause for your high idle start.

Don't know if that would then cause bad data to be read into the ECU and then mess up the ignition? (pinging that you mentioned).

Member DUDE and I swapped his wax unit out of his 5th gen - and then learned that the unit could be flushed out - versus replaced. YOu've gone this far - might that be worth checking out?

  13. Subtle....... nice stuff boys!

Seb - I shoulda looked closer at your VFR at TMAC - have you also done this to your bike?

Love how Rob tried to slide that clear clutch cover dealio through. Kinda like killing a mosquito with an anvil...... :)

  14. Kaldek - I"m late to this party - but need to say - WOW. YOu're doing a serious effort here - and I hope you nail it!

Careful with those damn fuel pumps in and out of the tanks - the flanges are more than a little temperamental.

I'll be watching with fingers crossed for ya! Keep up the great experiment!

You mentioned that others have done this project - anyone from VFRD?

  15. why is this mod neccessary, sorry new here guys. and what about the RR mod ??????

I'm also new here but one of the earlier posts mention "I had no lights, blinkers were affecting the fuel pump, etc...."

I guess the front harness had a poor earth through the blue connector but Honda has subsequently had a recall and fixed the problem by replacing the front wiring loom. :fing02:

At the time of my "fix the blue connector ground wire" post - there were a ton of guys having trouble with the electrical on the front end - lights working intermittently, gauges going out, etc.. At the time I posted this - this topic was very "Current" so I'll take the ownership of missing the prelude for the "WHY DO THIS".

I believe that if you have the green ground wires going into the connector and coming out of the mate to it - do this mod - it'll save you some aggravation.
