  1. The issue they were having is the float bowls on the carbs were at atmospheric pressure... not the same pressure caused by the ram air effect; hence poor fueling. Apparently the fix is to connect the carb vent pipes to the airbox or do what the pic i posted above has done and incase the carbs within the airbox. :goofy: :goofy: edit - read about in this book: http://www.amazon.com/Motorcycle-Turbocharging-Supercharging-Nitrous-Oxide/dp/1884313078 Red
  2. How about one of these: I've read that a ram-air system and bigger airbox can add up to 10% power increase at the top end, plus more torque and better throttle response lower in the rev-range.

Hugo's Morlaco was a great infulence on my MK1 original design, which you've probably noticed! :fing02: Have you seen his Moto2 bike: www.bottpower.com As always I've had some non-bike projects/work have been in the way recently. Updates on the bike: Revised the latest design. Main tubes are 1.125 inch and joining tubes 1 inch. rear of fork legs are now 1.125 dia. Ordered the 4130 steel tubing yesterday - so hopefully will have something real/progress to show in the next couple of weeks.

  7. Cheers Guys! Powercoat satin black for the frame - or red not quite sure yet. mixture of Gloss and Matt Black bodywork... Like a KTM RC8R (big fan of these) I've picked up a 2005 Ducati 999 top fairing which could be good if I re-locate the stacked projector holes to side by side. now looking for the mid fairing sections.

  9. Just thought i'd let you guys know what's happening... I've had a couple of email communications with Norman Hossack which has been quite usful. Norman stated in one of his emails that he wouldn't build one of his designs with less than 24 degrees rake.. i'm still waiting for a reply as to why he thinks that - will have to wait and see.. seams to have the opposite opinion to others. Based on this and my own thoughts I've decided to relax the rake angle on the design from 17 to 20 Degrees, mainly this will allow the handlebars to be nearer the rider and give the bike a more conventional look overall. (standard fairings should fit better) i'm still on the look out for a used cbr600rr top and middle panels but tempted to buy a race fairing because the're cheap and available. As to frame material 4130 now seams the best choice. my welding grasstrack friend tells me that he's found that it doesn't distort as much as T45 or CDS5 tube. Currently i'm calulating how much tube/steel i'll need to buy.. crunch time's here. Hand over the money! Red

  12. Thanks Seb, I've just bought a cheap scuffed cbr600rr 06 tank cover to measure/cutup. Looks like it could save a bit of work fabricating a 'pretty' ali tank. As you say it would need to braced to allow for some chimpanzee action.
  13. Yep, with the new frame design a standard tank won't fit... I had thought of using a cbr600rr tank cover and chopping it, allowing for a simpler tank design underneath. What do you guys think? I could still do with some suggestions re: the fairing and tail unit How about one of these far eastern complete fairing kits in abs plastic or a cbr600rr race fairing? if I bought one now, I could measure it up to make sure everything would fit inside?
  14. Been busy designing the fuel tank/airbox area. The reasoning behind the flat surfaces is to avoid hand forming curved panels Material will be 3mm 1050A Aluminium sheet. Also raised the rear subframe - estimated seat height 820mm (i'm 6'2)
  15. Beck I agree with your opion on 1020 DOM tubing it's not suitable for motorcycle chassis. ERW Electric resistance welded (seamed) and (DOM) Drawn Over Mandrel to increase it's tensile strength. I believe that Ducati use 4130 for there production frames. interesting facts: Reynolds 753 tubing is heat treated 531! 531 Reynolds tubing was used on the legendary norton featherbed frames.

Steel and tubing £150 CNC milled parts on Mk1 including materials: £1750 Welding: £750 obviously there are other incidental parts/cost not included here! For me the good thing was not having to payout for everything at once. (spreads the cost of having a bike unlike anything else!) and OK I could have gone out a bought a bike secondhand, but it wouldn't have been a challenge/hobby/sanity keeper. When I originally started my goal was to build my 'own' bike; also I wanted to see what these 'funny front ends' are like to ride and a hossack system 'seemed' the simplest to build.
  19. I don't think you lack 'talent' I've been looking at the yokes and stuff on your website! :biggrin: :dry: I think what makes Aluminium different to weld is it's ability to disipate heat and it's lower melting point than steel.
  20. Nice girder fork! Reminds me of the Vincent Rapide and Black Shadow. There's a R1 somewhere on the net with a setup like that but fork legs are machined from billet Ali. Believe me after all the time and effort I put into Mk1 it was a big decision to start again; I couldn't bare to look at the errors and compromises in the chassis design anymore... I've taken it as a great learning experience :biggrin:

  22. Yes Seb, there's serveral places that will probably require guesseting. Thought this would be a solution to the radial brake mount area?
  23. Modelled the R1 radial calipers and mounting location. Changed the fork width to get the correct caliper/disc offset of 22mm, plus spacing for the 296mm disc diameter. Still some modelling left to do... :biggrin: 1.Airbox 2.Tank
  24. I did evening classes to learn MIG and Gas(Oxy/Acetylene) a few years ago.. (Gas welding is a beautiful art form, I see why the old guy's still love it) Paid the guy who welded the last frame for me to show me the technique of Tig. Just started welding small pieces in steel. it seams simular but different going from Gas to Tig btw. I haven't done much with ali but like riding it's practice, practice - and more practice. Yes, I remember climbing aboard hossackviffer mk1 with butterfly's in my stomach... thinking "what have I done!" :biggrin:
