These cannons were used in the late 1800 early 1900's to protect the Pass that was used to reach the Eastern Coast line of Mozambique. Traders used this pass for access to the harbor. They are called Longtoms and thus the Pass was named after these cannons.

Hey rookie,

I've been to that gun, many years ago well 16 June 2001 to be exact.

It was the strangest thing because I was so far from home and I stopped at this monument and some of the

locals had some concession stands there, and the paper they pulled out to wrap my purchase, had an article about

One of Australias Cricket Legends, Donald Bradman. It was almost surreal.

But anyway, I loved all the area around there, Gods window and Pilgrims Rest, amongst others.

It is a simply wonderful part of the world.

Glad you enjoyed it. It's a beautiful part of South Africa, ideal for bike trips and tranquil. Hope you'll come back someday.
