Member Contributer VFRlover Posted May 25, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted May 25, 2020 Hi VFR experts, during winter I’ve been working hard in the garage, and I’m quite happy with the result. This is my “2000” German import with only 27000 km on the clock 🙂 But after installing Gilles bar risers (needed I’m 1,92m ), the throttle cables are too short - well I was prepared for that, and had purchased a set of Wenhill cables for a ST1100 because I’ve read (on this forum) that they are a straight fit on the 800. Well as it turn out they don’t fit, and I started wonder - this can’t be true - I’ve seen this in a couple of threads, ST1100 throttle cables are a longer and should fit directly?? Any one with some knowledge on this?
Member Contributer Lorne Posted May 25, 2020 Member Contributer Share Posted May 25, 2020 Why don't they fit - too short, wrong fittings, or... ? Fwiw, when I installed an LSL handlebar on my 2009 VFR800 I couldn't make the stock cables work. No matter what routing they were too short. Someone mentioned that ST1300 cables (17910-MCS-G00 + 17920-MCS-G00) were the correct choice and they were long enough. They are about 100-120mm longer than the VFR cables, and have the same fittings.
Member Contributer VFRlover Posted May 25, 2020 Author Member Contributer Share Posted May 25, 2020 Sorry, for lack of explanation, wires in cable are either too long (throttle on) or too short (throttle off) can’t make it work. Not sure, but in my mind the cables I ordered were for ST1100 and the 1200
JoelF
Yes, I use ST1100 cables on my bike with a bar conversion. There is also rerouting which can help. I do not think I have optimal routing now and plan to re-do it when I do steering head bearings and gold valves later this year. I do not think I used factory routing with the ST1100 cables, I think they were a bit too short for OEM routing.
