Changing Springs

All shocks are assembled at some point, so therefore they can also be disassembled. You need a fairly manly spring compressor, and in doing that you will expose a circlip on the shock body or the clevis end that retains the spring in place. There is some serious force involved in compressing the shock spring, so don't take the risks lightly. I'm sure any competent suspension specialist will be able to do this easily if you don't have access to the right tools.

Of course the spring is only one part of the equation; how's the damping?

I don't think the damping is too bad. But I'm also hesitant to spend the thousands of dollars to upgrade the whole shock and forks to go with it...

Just looking though, I suppose I could save some money and get DMr cartridges and a shock.

I can heartily recommend the DMr products; I have a DMr CBR929 shock, plus fork springs and valves in my VFR.

I looked around for some suspension stuff. Please share what you find. I couldn't find and Ohlins rear shock!

Here's a thread where someone put an ohlins shock in...

I've looked at different shock and I'm not sure what direction I would go if I replaced mine. I'm tempted by the nitron r1 paired with the DMr cartridges for a "budget" suspension upgrade.

Thanks Tgoranson fro the info! Looks like an easy fit as long as I don't go with too big of a spring!
