So I think my charging system may be suspect on my 2000 VFR. I got it w 24Km and it now has 78,000 mi. Have not changed the stator or R/R -- not sure if that is original, either. Previous owner put a computer fan right on the R/R which runs continuously. Battery is probably 3 years old. Lately the LED voltage indicator is telling me that when I run heated grips and high beams at idle, charge drops way low and starts blinking red. Before if I revd the engine, it would flash back to green -- now it takes sustained throttle to recharge and flash a solid green

Not sure I want to take on the volt meter tests and risk putting in an R/R and stator and having something go wrong. Anyone in the Allentown PA area? Recommend a quality, qualified shop to do this? Any help appreciated.

As a first DIY, I'd suggest you check the condition of the stator to RR connector, and then the condition of the positive battery terminal and battery earth strap. If any of these get some corrosion/dirt/looseness then lower charging voltages result. Just pull each connector, use contact cleaner and reassemble. I was seeing 13.3v recently when I normally get 13.8. Doing these checks got me back to 13.8v.
