Member Contributer digitallyhip Posted June 5, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted June 5, 2015 So, I'm moving from my 2003 with modified front suspension (less than 6,000 km/4,000 miles on it) to my new 2006 with stock suspension. I have never taken the front end of anything apart, so I have questions: can I do this swap with the fork tubes left on the bike? do I just crack the bottom machine screw open, unscrew the caps, remove the retaining ring, and pull everything up? what am I missing? Thanks everyone!
Member Contributer Duc2V4 Posted June 5, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted June 5, 2015 Just swap the whole fork set, tubes and stanchions. It's easy and less messy.
Member Contributer digitallyhip Posted June 5, 2015 Author Member Contributer Share Posted June 5, 2015 I had considered that, Duc24, but the old ones (with the good suspension) are considerably more corroded and the ABS sensor ring is different (although I guess that's an easy swap). Member Contributer Duc2V4 Posted June 5, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted June 5, 2015 If that's the case, yes, remove the bottom bolt and pull the whole assembly out the top and swap the innards. do one leg at a time as to reduce confusing which leg innard is which.
