Anyone know if or ever tried swapping a 98-01 gauge cluster to a 94-97

My 95 has 98-99 fairings with no gauge bezel. Just trying to decide if I should modify the 98-01 bezel or try swapping in the whole cluster

I reassembled a 97 cluster and bezel out of two partially damaged sets, and from visualizing that, I wouldn't see how you could drop a 98 style panel into a 97 electrically. Senders and ECU take-offs would likely not be compatible. Look at the two wiring diagrams and the blow-ups of the panel backs, connectors to see differences. Maybe you can sort out a sprare harness off a 98 to adapt to the 97 feeds to the panel.

Now maybe you could physically form a skirt from ABS that adapts the 97 cluster outer cover into the 98 fairings. Use a cut up 98 spare outer cluster cover and bond with two part urethane and filler to match to the face of a 97 panel, then paint to match. Good luck.

I think it might be possible...

If people can fit CBR1000RR and 600RR gauges to a 4th gen (it has been done on this forum) I would think a 5th gen gauge could work. However a speedohealer might be necessary.
