Member Contributer gll429 Posted March 25, 2012 Member Contributer Share Posted March 25, 2012 O rings and / or bad gasket.. or you simply need to tighten the bolts.
Guest
The gasket in this model's petcock is not available seperately, and looks like no other I've ever seen. It's like a 3-circle o-ring. I have no idea what we're supposed to do when these petcocks go bad, I see no way to retrofit any other part there.
hoganth
The little gasket thing comes with a new petcock. As last resort, try soaking for about 12 hours in "automatic transmission stop leak". I did that on my 83 and after the soaking, I lubed the gasket up with silicone grease. Also, make sure the two bolts holding the petcock are secure (torqued). I also wire brushed the seating areas in the tank and the valve. Hasn't leaked in a year. Maybe lucky I don't know. This procedure worked for me
