fuel spillage

Okay so i gotta question...i put fuel in my tank and it spills out from the On/Off/Reserve dial. What would cause that. and how in the hell do i fix it ASAP

The gasket in this model's petcock is not available seperately, and looks like no other I've ever seen. It's like a 3-circle o-ring.

I have no idea what we're supposed to do when these petcocks go bad, I see no way to retrofit any other part there.

The little gasket thing comes with a new petcock. As last resort, try soaking for about 12 hours in "automatic transmission stop leak". I did that on my 83 and after the soaking, I lubed the gasket up with silicone grease. Also, make sure the two bolts holding the petcock are secure (torqued). I also wire brushed the seating areas in the tank and the valve. Hasn't leaked in a year. Maybe lucky I don't know. This procedure worked for me
