3rd Gen Tail Fairing -- one of a kind!

OK - so I have been rebuilding a 3rd Gen project bike that I bought for $140. My main goal is to get it roadworthy for the least amount of dough and then use it as a beater bike for around town and for leaving at the train station.

It's not a pretty bike but it is allowing me to use-up a number of parts that have been hanging around from old bikes. It's a naked bike - but I have been looking for a tail fairing with no luck. A new rear end is not in the cards but I wanted to cover the the sub frame. I pulled out a couple of old front fenders from a 1990 Mazda Miata that had been taking-up space in my shed...see if you can guess where this is going.....

I used my new air shears .... sweet!

Trimmed-up and tweaked to follow the subframe

Final fitting and add old tail light from DRZ400 to some signals from RC51....

And voila... a covered rear-end (more or less) in about 8 hours!

It's not great but it will do for now!

Very clever idea! Are you going to fill in the rear section where the tail light and signals are? Are you concerned with vibration at all? Some rubber washers in between the frame and body work would be a good idea for that. I like what I see here, that's a fantastic idea.

I know - the headlight is from a Harley Davidson nightrain. It is super ugly - but it's starting to grow on me in a weird way.

I've never seen a naked bike headlight that I've really liked and was within my budget...so this is what I have ... the bike is less likely to be stolen!

I'm still figuring out what I will do to the back-end. Likely another sheet metal project...thatnks for the tip on the rubber washers...I'll do that.

Doesn't look that bad, for a few hours work on a weekend.

But that head light has to go....

Esthetics aside, how do you hope to get it insured in Ontario? Or was it already titled and insured?

This thread made me giggle. Pure awesome for improvising a tail fairing but damn that's one ugly bike. An major point deductions for putting a Harley part on a Honda. There's got to be a karmic law violation there somewhere. :491:

Having said that...it's your ride and to heck with what we think. :fing02:
