Yeah, but you're a Californian! On the east coast, I'd say fugetaboutit. Even here in the PNW (rain, but no salt) it's more trouble than I'd like (I polished just the outer rims). Even when there's no rain, the wind and blowing dust here means that I have to wash my bike about weekly, and you can't even really let the water dry on polished rims (unless you keep them well waxed). Also, for some reason the front has been easier to maintain than the rear on my bike, and I don't think it's just from lube fling.

Tele, your wheels, and whole bike, looked awesome. My favorite one at the meet (after the RC51). Very clean, nice subtle mods. Your bike with a franken-fork would be killa.

I really liked whoever's bike that had the "chrome smoke" powdercoat. The polished looks the best, but that was a close second and would only require standard washing.
