Hi everyone, I'm having an issue with my bike when it starts. When I go to start my 2016 vfr800f everything proceeds as normal. The headlight lights up, the dash comes on and does the needle sweep, the fuel pump primes etc. But when I hit the starter button all that happens is that ignition relay will click (quite frantically), the dash goes dark and the starter motor will sometimes go, but the actual engine won't catch. The weird thing is that I've done this while attached to a volt metre and the battery has been near fully charged (showing 12.6v). Anyone else ever experienced this? The dealership mechanics are very quick to prescribe a new battery but it feels like something is going wrong in the ignition system. Any and all experiences and good ideas welcomed. Thanks.

I've been a reaaaaallllyyyy long time infrequent lurker. I bought my 1996 in 2005(and joined VFRD), rode her for a while and had a few issues that I was going to get to. Well, I never got to it. Life always seemed to get in the way. Here I am now though, in need of some direction from you more experienced folks. There are a number of things that need replacement, most of which from sitting so long, and I'm curious as to the best place to get them. One of the main issues are the right side fairings, the lower black and red right above it. From what I remember, no one makes them anymore, OEM or aftermarket, and you have to find them used? Anyone have them here? The other bigger issue is the starter is toast. I see a huge price disparity between aftermarket and OEM. Aftermarket is about $100 vs $400 for Honda. Why such a big difference? Does anyone have experience with aftermarket starters? The list of stuff I need is probably fairly common, with maybe the exception of the throttle tube. I haven't found it on a parts breakdown. But any recommendations for the following items would be appreciated - Chain Fork Seals Brake pads front and rear Is there a caliper rebuild kit? Air Filter As is usually the case, budget is a bit of an issue, and I'd rather not spend so much on the starter, which I hadn't expected to have to replace with this project. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Hi guys, After riding in San Francisco traffic for about 30 minutes, I stopped to get some donuts. The temp was at 210-220F the whole time in the city, but I think its normal. When I got back on the bike to start it, it clicked but the engine didnt crank. The clock got reset. So I pushed started it and it worked. When I got back home, I checked and charged the battery, but it only took 5 minutes to charge it. So, my question is, is there something on the bike that prevents the bike from starting again when it has been running hot? It is not the battery because, it would start again when the bike is cold. I was thinking it might be starter related problems.... If you guys have any advice to give, please leave in the comment boxes below. Thank you.

Hi Guys. I'm new to this forum, and have had a look for 'my answer', but am still a little keen see what you've all got to say. Before I get going on the drama, i'd like to say that I have almost no idea about electrical stuff. If I can't see what's broken, I'm pretty rooted. To the chase!!! O.K.... I purchased an '97 VFR 750, which has seen a few miles, but is still in good nick, despite it's been thrown down the road. The drama is: It's battery is dead, and i've tried to start it with, and without the battery in the loop. I've used a jumper pack (don't know if this is a bad idea, or not) and nothing. I get dash and headlight, but nothing else. No fuel pump sounds....no solenoid sounds.....zip. Side stand is up...check. Key is on...check. Run switch is on run....check. In neutral...check. I'm leaning towards a blown fuse, but really have no idea. As I said, earlier, the lights and whistles come on, but as soon as I hit the starter, nothing....as in nothing. (The lights go off, when you hit the starter, as you'd expect, but nothing else happens. No fuel pump is probably the biggest hint, for all you 'electrical gods'. I'll be pulling the old girl down soon, to get a few unwanted kilos off, but want to know if everything is in order, before I get it to bits. Any assistance would be invaluable.

HELP!!! I have a few to me VFR. It has 50,000 miles on it, and the one previous owner, who babied it. In the mornings when I get up, I start up my bike, leave it in neutral, and let it idol for a few minutes, usually while I wipe off the morning dew. Over the last few mornings, it wont start up right away. I will set it on half choke to get it started, but as soon as it kicks on, I return it to the choke being off, and the engine cuts off. I'll set the choke on half choke and let it idol in half choke, but when i hop on to ride it, it will cut off. Once I get going on my way to work, and for the rest of the day, I have no issues. This only seems to be in the mornings, or when I haven't rode it in awhile. I'm sure I am doing something dumbly wrong, but here's the best place to ask. Thanks, Nick

I have been absolutely LOVING having a running VFR, and have so far also given rides to 2 of my boys (youngest boy also wants a ride, but we haven’t yet found suitable gear.) No rides for the daughters (yet.) Yesterday at the bank, I tried to restart the bike (’98 with 74,000 miles) and hitting the start button made a little click sound (seemed like it was in the instrument panel area, or down around the ignition key area) but the engine didn’t turn over. I clicked it several times, it was obvious the starter wasn’t doing anything, I was just getting a click from up in front of the fuel tank somewhere. After a few more tries, it started right up, and restarting again later I had no problem. Any ideas what this might be? Or what I can do to diagnose this (when it doesn’t happen all the time)? Is there a relay that might need replacing after 15 years and 74 thousand miles? Scott in Penfield NY

The title sums it up. I have a 1984 VF700F that I have been restoring. Everything works, but I have to pull the starter button out after it starts. Which I can do, but every now and then... I forget to, and nothing good can happen from that. I have tried all sorts or lubing, lithium grease, etc,... but it still sticks. Is that a one piece swith? I tried to figure out how to take it apart, but I don't want to force anyhting that isn't made to come apart. Thanks, Scott
