  1. Unfortunately what they don't tell you is that you also have to employ an adapter plate to slip through the D ring on your helmet to attach it to the bar end lock. It doesn't look like it would be too comfortable in your pocket.

And at those prices you could do better *hint hint nudge nudge*

  2. I like Darthbling's approach to cold weather riding for your hands and lower arms. Heated handgrips plus handlebar mits. Combined cost of $40 for weather proof sleeves with wool lining to keep the heat on the hands.

    Add to that I wear:

Cortech Sport XL will full liner

    Moteck Winter gloves

    Wool socks over cotton ones

    Joe Rocket 2.0 overpants

and the usual under gear such as t-shirts, thermal undies, etc

The worst I have suffered is cold toes and am seriously contemplating some heated socks or insulated riding boots but that is usually only a concern once the temps hit the mid 30's here. And I ride year round unless there is snow on the roads.

  3. FYI Thurn is considering on making a base and extender. They haveing a production meeting soon and will let me know. Darth if your still considering on making them please post updates. I'm in no hurry as long as I have a set before next season /spring ...now that this one is pretty much done, just know how some things like this go that take time to get done (anyone remember the peg lowering blocks...) and before we know it will be another couple months or next season with or with out this gadget. :salesman:

Just out of curiosity, but why can't you use the lobster extenders before the base? They are pretty sturdy and drilling a small hole to run the wiring would be pretty simple.... +1.gif

  4. I know there is one grounding point to the frame on the left side between the battery and gas tank. Is there any other grounding points on the bike, like maybe in the nose of the bike? I am about to take care of this grounding problem with the blue connector and want to know where if any other ground points are?

    Thanks

See this post to answer your questions:

    Blue Wire Fix

  5. Any chance...please Darth you can or will you at least post some details on what is needed and let us deside if we want to wait for your offer to make them or make them our selfs or contact the maker of the original ones you found to work from Thurn?

Lol....impatient! It sounds like he CAD designed the mounts and is converting it to CNC friendly code so as to cut down time and costs. Let the man earn his living and get what little time off he gets for some sleep and riding. wink.gif He won't leave us hanging like some people I know *coughsmyMEbuddycoughs*

And yes, I will be down for a set pending price as well. I still have my GSXR mirrors sitting on a shelf next to Trav's wheel hugger. :P

  6. Bump....Should I start shopping for a good deal on a set of Gxer mirrors asap yet? :warranty: Darth, Please consider makeing the bases to inclued mirror base extenders like these as one or as a option to add if we want to be able to see behind us like they allow.

I've been useing them for years now and can't imagin not having them on my Gen4.

That shouldn't be a problem when you consider the extenders a made to match the base of the VFR. I have a set of Lobster's extenders that I intend to use as well. If the adapter is made for the VFR, then the extenders should be simply plug-n-play. smile.gif

And you can put me down for a set of adapters for a 6th Gen if/when you start making them Darth...seems my ME buddy bit off more than he can chew. <_<

  7. My buddy and I are going to look the bike over this coming weekend and see what we need to get a few projects done. The GSXR mirrors that have been sitting in the garage go with me and I will update when we have something in the works. He works 3 jobs and is rebuilding two Nissan 240 Sylvias for track/drifting events so finding time has been quite a challenge. :joystick:

  8. I've been thinking about it some, and I know there's a better way to mount the mirrors. I've got a few designs in my head that would work, but I need to get in touch with a CNC shop to find out how much it'll cost to make some custom mounts (unless vanion2 beats me too it and his friends makes some mounts). wink.gif I really don't think I'll get anything done this month since I've got a lot of work to do on my bike in anticipation for my first track day in June, but there's a good chance I could get something fabbed up for wholesale by the end of the summer.

Whew! Good to know considering I only have a 3 week window before summer session begins and my girl and I are house hunting. You may beat me to it and I will end up on your list. :goofy:

  9. If the mount turns out well, I'd be interested and help defray the cost if you'd consider producing a 2nd set. I've been thinking about doing this mod as well. Ron
Doh! I just got my GSXR mirrors in today and missed a mighty important detail. The mounts bolt downwards where the VFR's mounts side ways. :o Thus the use of the Thurn mounting kit making it easy for Darth Bling. Oh, the road to wisdom is a long one. No worries though, I have a ME buddy whom I think would be able to make a mount in no time for the right price. :salesman:

I will update when/if this works out.

Shhhhh....don't tell anyone but I mentioned the fact that there might be others interested in the bracket and my friend is considering that as an interesting offering depending on cost/time and such. We are both full time students and this won't be happening until the end of finals week (May 11th). If this does happen it will be a short run on definite buyers. No, I am not taking orders. I am just making anyone interested AWARE of this POSSIBLE opportunity. I will update more when we know more about what is entailed.

  11. You have inspired me. I have seen the GSXR mirrors before and wondered if they could be mounted. And since I just found a pair for $61 after shipping off eBay you can pat yourself on the back for said inspiration. I have Lobster's extenders but I plan on doing some drilling where necessary to make this work.

I really need to quit reading all these posts...I spend way too much money on "upgrades". :idea3:

  12. Thanks for the replies... After work I'm taking the bike to the dealer for the leaking shock, and depending on what the service manager says just might let the dealer figure it out. I trust this dealership since they're small and family owned...not like the other big Los Angeles area dealerships. Some good advice here though and I appreciate the help...I'm leaning towards a vacuum leak or maybe I plugged something I shouldn't have.

    I hate it when I plugged something I shouldn't have. +1.gif

    Good luck.

  13. When i had my epiphany about the wiring last weekend, i didn't mention something because most people don't have one.

There is a device called a megger, this an ohm meter that outputs high voltage and alot more current than a simple multimeter. The multimeter is fine for 90% of checking, the megger will help to find bad continuity where a multimeter will not.

I would venture to say it is still a wiring issue, unless you have soldered all connections and totally cleaned your grounds.

I worked as an Electronic Tech for the Coast Guard and you are right about the megger. But the megger would be a poor application for the VFR. It is used to test high voltage/current wiring systems and would most likely damage components of the VFR with the amount of output it shunts per run. For what the VFR is designed for a good multimeter (such as Fluke) is all you really need. Of course, if you found a low power version of the megger (IE under 30 amps/20 volts) you could always go that route but it would still be over kill. That's just my opinion though. To each their own.
