  1. Couple pics. Excuse the bugs:

    Signal Mirror

Wires are visible on the cockpit side, but not a lot.

    Mirro Mount

I got Emgo mirrors, the Suzuki are much better quality but I got smoked lenses and they cost about half. CornerCarver sprung for the genuine parts.

I also needed new VFR mirrors so got Emgo for those too. Had to later buy stainless bolts because they started rusting.

The other Carver boys had 6th Gens so I saw theirs too. Solid stalks, that's why they also shrink wrapped them. Like I mentioned, it took two different sizes to cover 6G stalks.

  2. Yep, that one. The stalk is solid, so wires on outside. GSXR had only 2 wire sockets, but I was able to force the stock 5th Gen bulb sockets in the housing for running/signal lights.

Heat shrink was 1" maybe? 6th gen has really skinny stalks that flair out just as much as the 5th, so they needed two sizes for those.

  3. I've got Dzus for all my '99 front fairing fasteners. The upper ones that connect the sides to the front were simple using the clip on backs. The others required some creativity...

Just those are a simple upgrade and save time when removing the sides. Personally, I just wanted them all to be 1/4 turn. Couldn't manage tool-less, as the front V fairing is too recessed to fit D ring Dzus. Had to settle for 4mm allen head. Leaving the lower side fasteners as stock 5mm allen head bolts of course meant 2 tools required. So finally I got the sides as tool-less 1/4 turn Dzus specialty fasteners. (Long working length)

I've still got two of the plastic Honda fairing clips to contend with. Can't have a Honda without those! :goofy::wacko:

  4. My first glance I read "Yes, idiots!" :goofy:

I've got JD (DMr) suspension on my Franken5th, but c'mon. (Rebuilt SP1 forks, and rebuilt 929 shock) Marginally unrideable is a stretch! I rode an ST with freshly done Traxxion forks and new Penske shock that was set up by Traxxion and it was incredible. It was set up for 2 up and luggage touring, but me solo with no hard bags it still worked.

I understand he wouldn't want to say a competitor is making something equal or better, but take that with a really huge grain of salt!

  5. White.

    Blue behind the LCD.

You could try red, since the needles are red. The red plastic filters out all the colors except red if you are using incandescent bulbs. By using blue LEDs there is no red to come through. That's my understanding of it anyway. That's why you should use red LEDs for red lenses, amber for amber, etc.

  6. My unscientific and nearly accidental settings are CBR/RC51 offset, combined with the front as low as the clutch master cylinder allows (due to hitting the fork) and the rear end shimmed 5mm on the shock mount bolt. It's stock length, and that's where I ran out of threads. Turns out it works. At least for me.

  7. I am not sure if it would be worth the effort but he is stubborn.

Perhaps this is equally suited to the TXMac Quotes thread, but I do believe my one notable contribution would be "He's not called MiniCarver for no reason."

And that was before the whole rebuild thing was floated...

  8. Can you not angle your bike just enough to pass through the gate and wiggle one mirror though, then the other?

That's what I do at the security gate at work... enter in at a slight angle and lean the bike one way, shuffle forward, and then lean it the other way and shuffle forward again...

I can confirm that constantly folding them in n out will lossen them and see them fold back at speed on the road...

I used to park my VFR inside at work and used a normal sized walk through door to get in. That's the way I did it^^^

And I second that the moving them will cause them to loosen up.

  9. And you also make a good point! Fluid "volume" is not really relevant in hydraulics. However, I would say that the level of complexity in an ABS system vs a standard brake system is much greater. I went a little way towards doing a fork upgrade on my ST1300A, but decided to stop when I started to understand how much engineering had gone into the ABS system I was hoping to retain (in a now de-linked environment). I realised that I was never going to be confident enough in that kind of hybrid ABS system (and that was "just" a touring bike). Swapping the complete ABS system from a CBR1000RRA might be an option (for a VFR), but there's still the difference in weight and the location of that weight to consider.

    Ciao,

    Or the VFR1200.

(Parts are going to be super expensive, though.)
