Yup! Agreed! 100%. Even K&N states the nut is for fast and easy wrench-off removal not installation.
As I was reading this thread I kept thinking "I can't be the only one who knows this right?"

Nice report. Wish it was longer so I could burn more office time!

Nice! Getting a solid group together. Now we just need some new recruits...

In.
Sort of a sidebar but
if Mike treated this as his day 3 and 4, it would fit nice with his day 5 and 6.
My thoughts exactly. Meant to include that in the first post.

It's time again. For the 4th straight year, I'll attempt to corral many of the usual VFRD suspects for a weekend. Bring your radiator guards and eggs.
Dates were set after asking last year's participants - so if you don't like them you should've gone last year! Work commitments will require this to be 2 1/2 days for me - ride down afternoon of 9/9, then this:
9/10: https://goo.gl/maps/t6qJDUnorCS2
HOTEL: Kernville Inn, Kernville, CA (as of 8/24 they're full - book Kern Inn, Kernville as alternative)
9/11: https://goo.gl/maps/czqeY59KeL42
HOTEL: Shaver Lake Village Hotel, Shaver Lake, CA
If you're in SoCal please chime in - we'll give some consideration to making it a basecamp ride rather than point-to-point if there are a lot of you.Thoughts? Objections?

I just did a similar trip too, but without a wife.

We're getting
California (the good parts) in general is expensive, crowded, politically weird, fiscally/hydrologically unsustainable, and culturally broken (in my ever-so-humble opinion).
That said, the unbelievably diverse natural beauty, insanely good year-round riding (and good skiing in winter), diversity, and some of the best wine and food in the world keep me here. For now.And I love SoCal - would like to join a SoCal VFRD ride at some point. I personally enjoy the Mulholland shenanigans and go whenever I have the chance. It's a car/bike show in motion.

Day 10 (the end)
If I could fit the bike in the tent, I probably would. I could run it to keep me warm! Wait, what’s this carbon monoxide you speak of?
“I ain’t got a dime, but what I got is mine – I ain’t rich, but lord I’m free.”
Peter Egan says the minimum temperature in degrees at which you’re willing to ride is the same as your age in years. I’m too old for Los Padres in November.
By noon I’d slid into some grassy runoff on a frosty patch, ate cheese that I’d dropped in dirt, and broken my radar detector. Time to get lost.
This is Nacimiento Fergusson Road. I use the term “road” loosely. Like, career-hooker-with-nine-kids loosely.
But then you get to the top and you fall in love with her anyway. It’s kind of like Dirty Dancing.
These are flowery bush things. They looked cool in person. Like every one of my slightly truthful stories, “you had to be there."
All of my favorite roads are “who-decided-to-build-this-and-why” roads. This is the posterchild.
I used to hate Big Sur because it’s so crowded. I mean damn, look at all those tourists. What a mess.
Hey, at least the Scott Oiler keeps the rear wheel well-lubricated. Not sure about its effects on the chain.
This is a bridge, but I forget which one. I’m just a fountain of knowledge.
At this point you start to think about how far you are from home and how late it’s getting. Unless you’re me, then you don’t and you get home at 1am.
*WOO WOO* Pull over, that ass is too fat!
Just take these photos handheld because setting up your tripod is too much work. Deleting all the shitty handheld photos you took is comparatively easy.
Your reward for all your patience: lane-splitting in the dark!
And then, your Runaway is over. Until T.D.R. III…
…it’s back to reality. MAP:

But I just froze in a tent
Who’s the turkey now?

Yeah, great pics, but I'm still pissed about that corner shot. Anyway, hit 88 today, then joined the millions of RV's heading west on 50, and then on to, well, you know where.
Got home about 6pm, thought the town had been evacuated but then realized the Warriors game had started. Great ride, and really, no crashes and no tickets!
Brian, the report is that the same frost heaves that were on Ice House last year are still there, and there was one minor sand wash in a non-critical spot on Wentworth, but otherwise conditions are perfect. Had to check it out three times to make sure though.
Noted. Probably won't go check it out asap just in case. One can never be too careful.

YOU WANT PICS????? I GOT PICS
Messed up the batch edit on these so the quality isn't good. Too lazy to go back and fix them one-by-one.
And my god, can't believe George didn't get a ticket. Houdini.

Just check this West forum once every week or two from about April - October. There's usually something cooking.

Last one to chime in, but I'm home safely. Funny, was going to type "good dudes, good riding, no tickets".......
Thanks everyone for coming along. Pics tomorrow.

Hey I forgot this one!
The Rockstore guys took a photo of me while I tried really hard not to crash. I succeeded at something!Final post on Monday.

Great, now we don't have a sacrificial lamb any more.
Who's gonna take a speeding ticket for the team now?
Probably me. Had to send in the radar detector to get the headphone jack fixed. I'm riding blind...
-
I think everyone here has my cell number - PM me if you don't.

-
Don't worry, TKC80s need not apply.
-
Nice! Sounds like a good ride.
Um, just to ask the obvious question - how did you lose your footpeg haha
Was it punctured by your radiator??? -

May I propose you pick up South Bay Riders 8:15 at the Shell Gas - 809 E Stanley Blvd, Livermore, CA 94550
Not a bad idea per se, that's just not usually the way we go.
We'll see how things shape up attendance-wise -- makes more sense for North Bay guys to go through Fairfield if crazybro is in the fold. Will keep ya posted. -

Is this a One day run? (preferred)
Yes, Saturday only.
-
Okay kiddies, looks like it's gonna be a hot one on Saturday. I'm going regardless, so here's the plan.
Meeting point is Starbucks in Manteca: 1451 Hulsey Way. KSU at 9am!Final route is: https://goo.gl/maps/XW4eaucztWq
Plan is, as always, to have lunch at Mountain View BBQ in Coleville. Based on the route it might be a late lunch - bring some snacks.
If you're coming from the North Bay, we'll meet up somewhere for the trek to Manteca. Questions? Comments? Dissention?

Thanks HS - you're the man for doing all this. We all really appreciate it.

I like Lorenzo and Marquez just because it's fun when Rossi fans get butthurt.
Otherwise, I've always rooted for Duc's racing teams, and really would like to see Dovi do well. Vinales too.
