  1. this bike has a busted exhaust stud..
the forks and wheel are removed for a later write up ..
    IMG00451.jpg
after trying the "double nut" method..which stripped the remaining treads off the stud
    IMG00452.jpg
so i rethreaded it..what was left..
then i took a long nut and cut it at an angle for more surface area contact with the MIG welder..
    IMG00453.jpgIMG00455.jpg

then let it cool and it came right out.

    next.. exhaust write up!!
you have read this...now go find a mod and pin this thread. :goofy:

  2. this is the best pic for now of throttle plate

as far as passengers steering? no prob...i have way more leverage from the length of my bars...besides,if they screw with me to much i'll just turn right real fast....they'll fly away and i'll just do a sidecar wheelie

    :fing02: :bliss: :bliss:

and then they can pay you to build a side car them :fing02:

    good point....anyone wanna ride lol

i will go.. mainly because my jacket has an airbag in it! :fing02: and i am used to hitting the cruise control and taking my hands off the bars. :fing02:

  4. do you have a reverse???

and if o were you.. remove the bars from the forks.. unless you really trust your passenger..

i would make a bar mounted to the front subframe bolts and the tank mount.. :fing02:

    looking good!

i am tempted to say lets make a cycle shop.. "rollers" run by people to stubborn to give up rolling!

i hope you talk clear , because your sign language is going to SUCK!!

  5. if you use an airplane style stick.. you add a pocket for your hand.. no velco needed as your not pushing and pulling .. just moving it left and right... steering becomes a 1 arm job.

keep up the good work

but that would have 2 be driven by electric motors or hydrolics...and thats something that could fail.

nope.. direct linkage!! STEEL IS REAL!!! not saying it would not be brain teaser.. but i know it can be done.. a stick mounted to the floor with a pivot..moving only side to side. and have a pivoted bar about 5 inches ( or something like that)from the floor going to a bracket UNDER the triple tree. the stick would give lots of leverage. all of it should be bolted up and have the bolts secured with cotter pins and safety wire.

as for the "T".. i dont know how strong you are.

but you can have a spring holding the "T" all the forward.. which will be pressing on the brakes.. then you pull it back and frees the break and hits the gas.. and away you go!!

or flip it so so you push it forward..

  6. COOL...the elbow throttle worked out pretty good. after some simple wiring and tieing up some loose ends, this thing will be roaring down the road finally.

what about a 4 wheeler thumb throttle? a trigger throttle? a jet plane style "T" throttle? find one with a thumb button for the clutch and add a lever for the brakes :bliss:

had to go with elbow throttle so i can keep both hands on steering...its because my hands are totally paralysed.i velcro my right hand to the bars, leaving my left free for operating steering, switches ,brakes and shifting...it has an autoclutch,so no clutch levr needed....i'll post a pic later of all my controls...thx for trying to give good advice hough but because i have unique disabilities i needed to adap[t in an unorthodox manner

rats.. i think it would have been cool if one hand had a the jet style throttle and other worked the streering via a stick.. ergo a real road rocket.. :fing02:

your still a lucky bastard...you can HEAR queen!! :bliss:

oh wait.. your stuck with rap music too... uummm :fing02:

auto clutch.. very cool.. you can still use the jet "t".. in fact.. you may be able to use the "T" for the throttle and breaks.. pull back for gas, push forward to hit the breaks..no buttons needed.

  8. hhmmm 3 days of soaking.. i spend 1 buck for an aluminum baking pan.. 1 buck for a paslic bucket (to catch any overflow.) and 15 for a 1 gallon can of GUNK carb dip.

wrap the pan around the disasembled carbs..

place in plastick bucket.. pour in the gunk.. let sit for 30 min.. looks like new..

same as the pine col ..just much faster..

i guess if your doing stuff at home taking your time pine sol is the ticket.. in a shop.. GUNK.. :fing02:

  9. well yes and no.. you can make anything work .. if your willing to play a little bit..

cobra did make some nice f1 pipes back in the day.. ..do you have a pal who weld?

the reason i ask.. if you find some pipes you like.. you may need to weld on a addapoter..or some spring loops to the headers..

and then you may need to play with the carbs..

Especially if you could track down that twin exhaust can setup!

Yeah it's a great look! I had the chance to buy one of these a few years back for $200, brand new... didn't grab it :wheel:

i know.. because i got them! the y pipe was missing... but i got em!

  11. Alright, have had some time to look things over and got a better grasp of this one

I got the hub from a member here that was trying a similar conversion on his 5th gen but it didn't quite fit for him, wheel from ebay. Two issues that I know of right now, alignment and axle length. It looks like the axle can lose around an inch, so I'll need to find a good machinist to cut and rethread it for me. Alignment looks very close, I haven't actually put it on yet, but from sighting the hub I might be 4-5mm to the left (max).

Any ideas on these two? Hopefully tomorrow I can actually get it mounted up and check the alignment for real.

No update on the radiator situation yet, still thinking about this one. The VFR radiator is 17in wide and 7in tall. If I were a welder a couple of cuts to the corners is all I need, however (sadly) no welder am I, so off to take some measurements, maybe all I need is one from a 400 (good idea), we'll see

i have the same problem.. every shop tells me the axle is hardend steal and they cant cut the treads..

one shop did say they can cut them.. but only to a standard .. no metric.. so now i am looking for a nut to fit.. with fine treads.
