    Sure, you could stay at South Lake Tahoe, but I prefer the Bridgeport Inn (which has a great restaurant, btw) a ways south on US 395.

     

    And for those who haven't seen it I offer this video showing the summit and eastward descent from my 2003 & 2014 rides. Though my pace was very similar it required a little tweaking to keep them synchronized. Hope you like it.

    Funny you mention that I had a nice meal in Markleyville, breakfast served at a mom and pop joint, literally I got served by the 14 year old son.  Good food, good riding, then I met some guy on a Honda Blackbird and we tore up the the desert below on my way through Nevada.
