Wow, just phenomenal. Absolutely phenomenal. I hope the first ride goes as well as the build did. Your tribute burnout is a wonderful idea, don't forget to record it to share. Thanks for the Oberon clutch slave idea, I wasn't aware of those. I'd be interested in hearing if it was worth the cost, or just a nice add-on as I'm about to rebuild my OEM one.

Good luck with the license, be careful what you say to them, it might be used against you. I went to the hospital a few years ago because I got dizzy and passed out in my kitchen. After I described the experience the doc that saw me in the ER pulled my license and said I needed to see a neurologist, but none wanted to see me as soon as they knew it was a license suspension. I live out in the country so this was a massive handicap. After 9 months of trying to get any doctor to sign the reinstatement form (nothing ever found and I had every possible test) I threatened to sue the ministry of transport for discrimination and had it back in 2 days..

Be careful what you tell a doctor if you live in Ontario.

It's always fun watching a project evolve, I wasn't sure where you were going with this at first, kind of like throwing stuff at it to see what sticks (suck it and see, as you say in the UK). It's starting to gel and I like the way you are following your own ideas and letting it organically develop. I have a lot of random parts around from similar 'physical dreaming'. When I did the RC51 tail for mine I dug up an LED CBR600 tail light that I already had from a previous aborted project that fit perfectly.

I had a bout of TLDR and scrolled to the pictures, said Jesus H F@$%ing Christ loud enough to raise my wife a floor above me, and then backed up for a full read. Amazing story, and so glad your wife woke up. I think you should change your user name to DucKed the Reaper. I just had my hip resurfaced after years of waiting (Canadian public health care system, you get what you pay for) so I didn't ride at all in 2022, too uncomfortable after 10 minutes. I gave my VFR an extensive 'cleaning' and upgrades during this time and expect to be riding it this spring, so you'll find it'll go by fast if you keep busy with it. Look after yourself and use the time to be in your best shape ever for when you get back.

I put an Aprilia shift arm on mine. It had the same splines and an eccentric adjuster on the tip. It was a bit shorter, which increased effort a bit, but the improved ergo was worth it. 
 

On the topic of bars, I went with Apex on my RZ350 when I put R6 forks on it. They were okay but I had issues with their tolerances on a number of details. A bit later I ordered some replacement bars and they were not the same as the first ones I bought. I ended up asking for a refund and returned the parts as agreed, but I had to chase them forever for the money. They weren't terrible but the overall experience put me off. I ordered Convertibars instead and wouldn't hesitate to buy those first if I changed bars on the VFR.

The hollow VFR rear axle presents a creative opportunity for keeping the front end off the ground for service;

IIRC I had 35 lbs on each side. If the front end stays up comfortably with the bike complete it only gets more stable as you remove parts.

...and then convert it to Canadian dollars to feel truly violated.

Twisted Throttle started as an adventure bike gear dealer in a small village near my parents house and has grown quite a bit, I see they are now in the US. I have used them numerous times and their customer service is first rate. I needed an MRA screen for an FZ600, which they didn't catalogue, but when requested they sourced one from the manufacturer and I didn't pay shipping from Europe because it came with their inventory shipment. I had to wait a few weeks, but no big deal. I'd recommend them and suggest giving them a call.

Will do, SP1 subframe is modified and on the bike and I'm picking the plastics up from a friend who's painting the trunk lid to match the tail this weekend. I'm really happy with the way it turned out, main tasks remaining are to make a flat under tray and battery box.

If you squint the last 2 look the most natural (least unnatural?). I think the newer tank throws off the vibe a bit, but clever use of paint could offset that. I get what you are trying to do as I've gone down a similar rabbit hole before with my RZ350. Remember, 'Those who dance are considered insane by those who cannot hear the music'. I can't name the tune, but I can hear it. 😉 FWIW I'm almost done installing an SP2 tail on mine, stay tuned.

Following this thread with interest as I currently have the throttle body off my '98 5th gen to facilitate general clean up and other things I'm doing. I was planning to have the injectors professionally cleaned while it's out but am always interested in upgrades. Interesting to note that the CBR929 injectors are NLA from Honda, but the F4 are still available  and are about half the price of 5th gen, which are also still available. I have no interest in swapping throttle bodies but am curious about installing the CBR600F4i injectors into the 5th gen unit. The only engine performance mod happening this winter is installing the VFRD header. I didn't plan to install a PC/Rapid Bike right away, maybe next winter.

Question for Mohawk, did you use a different OEM fuel regulator or an adjustable aftermarket unit, and do you think there is any point to this upgrade without doing the PC/RBR at the same time?

Nice pic. The RC51 is one of my all time iconic motorcycles.

I love that bike, best iteration of that model. During my formative years it was an RZ350 (which I have), one of those, or a GPZ550. If you were exceptional you could have aspired to an RZ500 or 500 Gamma, both sadly still out of my price range.

Wrap a small ratchet strap around the head pipes to pull them together while you get them in?

Looking forward to getting these installed. I ordered new nuts, and this thread convinced me not to be lazy so I ordered the studs too, from Honda. Picked them up yesterday, there were SEVEN. The last one is back ordered until mid July! 🤬

Maybe I'll do it anyway and leave the most accessible one in to do later, or maybe I'll just wait until I put the RC51 tail on and make the new mid pipe at the same time. Finally riding weather here so I don't mind having it together.

On the very first post in this thread there are some comments on the design Parameters, One Was that the collEctor diameteR would be 2 inch and mid pipes would need to be modified to suit.

Wow, I did not know that even existed. I have been toying with the idea of Megasquirt on another project but am trying to avoid getting carried away. I bought the VFR because my other bike was turning has turned in to a perpetual occasionally rideable project and I wanted something to just ride. So far I'm struggling with that. 

Following this with some interest.  It seems those who have tried an RB after a PC think it was money well spent, and I am the sort to play with the options. My gen 5 has no stock O2 sensors and I am not averse to spending money, but the full in cost to install an RB with 2 Wideband sensors and MTB modules plus the headers is about what I paid for the bike. I might just bung the pipes on and see how it goes.

You could sift through an online parts fiche such as www.ronayers.com and make a list. They generally list the bolt sizes, or it is implicit in the part number.
