There is absolutely no need to drain the final drive hub when replacing the shaft. The hub is completely sealed and not dismantled at all. It is removed and re-fitted intact when the shaft is replaced so the oil shouldn't be touched.
Yep, I just checked the service bulletin, and that is correct - no need to drain. Hopefully the mechanic followed the proper procedure - have you lifted the back of the bike and tried to spin the rear wheel to check for binding or noises? If you put a floor jack under the center stand mount boss, and just lift it a few centimeters, while on the side stand, the back tire will come off the ground and you can check it's rotation for dragging.

Make sure they didn't forget to fill up the final drive with oil - I think they drain it with the service. Also check the lug nuts. Maybe the shipping company dropped the new shaft on the way to your dealer? Unlikely but possible.....

Finally got mine replaced, and it does seem less clunky at low speeds. Waiting for the rain to go away.............

Very nice!
You have incredible mechanical ability as well as creative talent. Everything on the bike looks as if it belongs exactly the way you have built it.
The under-tail is better than any factory, or aftermarket piece I have seen on any bike!

Mine showed up last week, and I went to the dealer to schedule. They said Honda didn't even know when the parts would be available. Then they said that they need to inform me that I should not ride the bike. I read the letter three times and no where does it say to stop riding - only that if you are concerned, to have it inspected. I just sent the forks and shock to Jamie, so I'm not in a rush, but I will be anxious to ride when the suspension comes back and I get it installed!
I guess I will just pull back the boot and give the U-joint a look....................

It finally happened! I powdercoated the wheels at work, and they came out nice. All new wheel bearings, seals, brake rotors and tires. I know it's not pristine, but it has all the tasty bits I wanted. Having so much fun riding it, I don't know if I will go back to the clip-ons.............just have a few pieces of bodywork, and new headlights to replace the old.
