  1. I am so pleased with this modification that I decided to make a dedicated thread. Something so small has made the bike so much more enjoyable to ride around town! It used to feel sluggish and bogged down below Vtech with long pulls over 7k. After the +2, it surges with the throttle at any RPM and rips through vtech just begging for the next gear. I can actually get a good pull in 5th+6th rather than pulling 3rd/4th and watching the needle stop in 5th. Low speed maneuvering is easier, the clutch is very user friendly and I find that it doesn't surge as much when rolling slowly through the neighborhood. My commute has no highway, and my daytrips usually have short stints of highway taking me to the fun roads so I can live with the wrung out rpms on the highway for the time being. I recommend the upgrade to anybody wanting a little more sport and a little less touring on the 6th gen.

  2. I went from 43T to 45T on rear and did not have to add any chain links. '07 VFR. Made the bike more rideable for me. Before the switch, I was stalling or slow to take off from start. I felt the stock gearing was too tall. You will never know unless you change it.

    I took a quick spin around the block today with the +2 rear and will be keeping it to say the least. I agree with MisterBill here- its much more ridable! Before I felt like under 7krpm was just the boring wait for the 7+ surge but now I can mob around town below 7k and still get good acceleration and enjoyment. Its much easier going from a stop, and I actually thought it was easier rev matching downshifting while trial braking.

  3. I have a rigged set up using GoPro adhesive mounts so that I can install/remove my Galaxy S4 from just under my windshield. I've found that as long as I use the phone as the "brain" of the ride I can have everything right in front of me on the fly (including navigation, music, speed, altitude, compass, average total speed, average moving speed, top speed hold, total trip distance as well as total trip time).

    I notice the license plate was rotated to horizontal. Is there anything else?

    Yes! Cutting the exhaust down gave me room to mount horizontal without it being "obstructed license plate"

    Mirrors, the same kind I have... did you wire them too?

    Yes! they are on using the OEM bike mount and they are wired as running lights while the bike is on.

    Blacked out shield?

    Yes! painted black actually, I am 6'3" and I do not look out of the windshield so it was an easy choice. it also eliminates a lot of glare on the cluster.

    No... same wheels just more dirt in the second set.

    Lastly, cutting the OEM exhaust has dropped enough weight in the back that the slow speed handling has been greatly improved. (but still not as awesome as riding around with an open cat no cans)

    The shield looks good - details please on your process and paint....

    It was just a rattlecan for plastic from Home Depot. Make sure you do your proper paint prep process, scuff sand the plastic wipe with alcohol or cleaning solution and apply several thin coats and it will look fine. I am a painter at work so of course when i got home I didn't have what I needed and ended up taking shortcuts and finishing with fisheyes on one of the corners, I'll re prep and do another coat some other time.

  7. I know it kinda looks Choppers Inc. but I like it,lol and as an added bonus it keeps the chain lube off my polished wheels I just spray degreaser on the back, it sit a minute and hose it off. Presto! Good as new :)

    with my luck that would still be considered "obstructed" because if the cop is off center to the right he cannot see the plate. once I get an aftermarket exhaust I will mount it vertical again, even if I have to trim the plate a bit. Right now I'd have to cut off WAY to much, possibly cut off some number as well.

    Don't come to IN cause it's illegal here for the plate to be vertical. There are lots of states that have laws like this so be careful

    As long as I am registered in Virginia I don't think it will be a problem.

  8. I hated the stock massive fender so the very first thing I did was chop it off and move the license plate.

    The two laws I had to keep in mind were- 1) License plate has to be lit with its own light(s) and 2) it has to be clearly visible from behind the bike. My first choice was something along these lines...

    The plate itself is to wide to fit between the tips of the stock cans so I recessed it in a little bit for clearance, unfortunately this was cutting it real close on rule #1 haha

    After getting an "obstructed license plate" ticket on top of a speeding ticket (80mph on an Interstate! @&%!) I had to come up with something different that kept the plate visible but not hanging out behind the bike. I went out with a tape measure and took a few measurements and drafted this up...

    It did not form as easily as I would have liked, but for now I used .063" 2024 T3 Aluminum because I could cut it on the squaring shear. I'll hopefully be rebuilding this in Ti once I get spun up on the power shear!!

    Nowhere does it say that the plate cannot be vertical ;)
