    So I bought a second bike mainly for the plastic and other repair pieces (after I got pushed over by a driver on her cell phone).
    And ended up with a mess like this

    So I mentioned here on this site that I am looking for a renthal bar set up because I really don't want to have to exact bikes to roll with, and someone responded. Now I am horse trading for parts.
    I got an idea I wanted a VFR-Supermoto-Daily Driver-Dual-ish Sport like thing. I really want to narrow the bikes back end (no wider than the seat) and make the front end all about business. I will make air ducts and a small fairing to cover the back of the cluster and remount the head lamp. Also add some racks for pelican of military aluminum boxes.
    Here is a copy of the letter I sent my house trading pal tonight in regard to removing the bars, cables, and triple clamps.
    Him-Did the process go smoothly? Any hiccups to look out for when I pull mine apart?
    Me-Yes, there are a few things.
    Here is what I remember.
    I removed all of my plastic. You may not but the view helped. there are two star drive bolts under the ignition on either side of it actually. You can loosen all the upper clamp bolts but may need to use a ball pein hammer to tap it up, I did. This is of course after you remove the bar ends, the grips, clutch and brake, and last throttle. Then you will need to tip up the tank and take a look down by the sticker on the frame. you will see the round throttle cam with bith cables. To the left you see both little screws that hold the bracket holding the cables. You will need a 90 degree bent number 1 phillips screw driver to fit between the frame and bracket. The angle was too steep to go in and not strip the screw. The screw is small and soft metal. Dont drop it! Once you take the cable free you can do as I did. I taped a wire to the cable before pulling it back through. That way I can pull the cables back in the same way. The cable drops from the throttle down the sanction and around the front of the right sanction. It then goes behind the brake line on the left side, behind the left sanction. then it starts follow that mess of wires in behind the frame headed right at that cam and bracket location.
    I really do not know how you will be able to see without removing plastic, it is dark and deep in there. You may need an LED taped to the end of your nose.

    Not to long ago before the snow hit on a Friday afternoon it was 45 degrees and sunny. It was time to get in my last spin on the bike and fill the gas tank.
    I rolled my bike out, fired it over and warmed her up for a few minutes. We rolled down the driveway.
    At the stop sign (less than one quarter of a mile from my house)at the end of the street I live on I sit waiting for traffic. I was flat footed looking right and left just waiting.
    Next thing I know I am grabbing at the brake lever trying to stop the bike as I am now moving out into the road while traffic is still flowing. I am squeazing for all I am worth as the ass end of the bike starts to kick out to my left side. I do not have the rev's up I am not cracking the throttle. What is happening?
    Then I feel something in my right hip and lower back and I turn my head back to see a car, a fender, door, and window.
    This stupid women was on her cell phone driving me right out of her way. She stopped either at the intersection or when she saw my helmet in her window, I am not really sure which.
    When I got up off the ground and picked up the bike she was out of her car. She spoke no english (at the time anyway) as one guy was yelling at her "what are you f**king thinking".
    The damage down the side was sad to look at. Not really bad but more like someone took a grinder and stabbed at the side of the plastic and the engine case. The brake lever was curled and the mirror pushed hard enough on the fairing it snapped my Zero Gravity windshield. Oh and the Staintuned pipe got scratched.
    After i got my report number from the cop I did not even bother to get the gas. I rode straight home.
    A couple of days later the claims guy gave me a check for 50 dollars less than totaling the bike.
    Soon there after I found another bike to buy for parts to repair mine. It made sence I got a whole bike for parts rather than just a few parts. Well now I find the bike is in better condition than I had thought and I am torn as to what I will do.
    Do I make one a street fighter and box all the extra parts?
    Do I make the newest bike set up with bags and a Garmin?
    Do I leave them both as is?
    For now I really just need to replace the brake lever. I can repair the right turn signal with epoxy. the fairing I think I will replace with a new set of fairings because I do not like the color match from the newest bike.
    I am still guessing....
    I think I would like to put a straight bar on the factory triple tree but I need an converter.
    To think I was so happy to tell my friend that I bought the bike from the good news that his old bike was in a calender and it was wrecked almost all in the same day. :goofy: :goofy:

    This shall be my first blog. So I am doing a copy paste of a posting I put up yesterday. Then I will see if this is something I can look forward to doing on a regular basis.

    By friday I was trying to contact a few owner/riders here in the St. Louis area to get in a Saturday ride in. The weather was mild and the time to strike before the real cold sets in is NOW.
    Of the local owners (that I have located thus far) only BTL68 was able to show uop Saturday morning at Starbucks. BTL68 owns a pearl white 1993 that is really very clean for it's age. The first thing that caught my eye was the pearl white and all the detail in the bike I had never seen before. I had looked at this bike in other colors from the same gen and I never saw all the lines before. The red bikes from that gen just tend to hide the details. So it was really more like my first time seeing this bike.
    Because we are in the heart of St. Louis it takes 15 to 20 minutes to get into roads you can really enjoy. I pointed us directly to an area called Wildwood where many of the roads are 1 and 1/2 wide winding in and out of farms and following creek beds. This really is picture perfect and give you a chance to just float from sweeper to sweeper. We carved our lines between the edges of the forest that stops at the roads edge and between the leaves that hug the ditches on either side of the tarmac. Your smile never fades here as you climb and sweep or dive and carve. Lots of fun stuff.
    We got back on the two lane highway which is really no less fun just different because speeds are higher and sight distance is ten fold.
    Three counties later and we are on highway 94 running north in the Missouri Wine Country and things were good until I saw a flash of color in my rearview. I though "oh shit" and then this ass on a copper colored midweight comes around me damn near hitting his head on my mirror. Then he decided to over take BTL68. I was thinking "look out" but really what can I do? This jerk almost gets his hip into BTL68's bar end and sqeezed by. Now the jerk goes to take over the SUV we had ridden up on. He cracked the throttle on a up hill blind right sweep and forced the SUV to tap the brake just as a yellow Mini Cooper crest the hill. CRAP! I was waiting to see the bike coming down back at me with the ass doing a face plant into the Mini's windshield. Lucky the driver in the Mini tap the brake and the jerk got by.
    Later BTL68 and I were talking form light to light about how stupid this squid was. Then maybe ten miles later I saw the bike and the KID at a Quick Trip. This dumb dumb waved with a smile like we were buddies. WTF ? I really wanted to turn back as we passed and kick the kids bike over and break his helmet then drag him behind my bike on the tarmac for a minute just so he could see what he was missing. Let's face it, he did not get by all of us by using his skills, it was by the seat of his pants, pure luck.
    We made it to the ferry crossing and took the 20 minute ride across the Mississippi River into Illinois from Missouri. After talking about eating we jumped on the Great River Road and rolled South to Alton. Once in Alton we went to Fast Eddies for eats and beers. I love this joint. Bob and Tom talk about it all the time (if you listen to their morning radio show). If you are ever, EVER near Alton Illinois do NOT skip Fast Eddies.
    Back across the Mighty Mississippi River with the sun in our face and the Arch to our South we cracked the bikes open to rid our bikes of any carbon build up.
    I went home to my sweet girlfriend Bri, whom I refer to as "my hot seat cover" and her daughter Cheyenne. The reat of the night was all about family.
    BTL68 went home to his BBQ grill with intentions of cooking anything that used to have a pulse and fill the neighborhood air with the smell of charcoal applewood and the defeat of local livestock. mmmmmm.....
    Somewhere in the mist of such a great day some jerk ass made me give thanks that he squeezed by with little more than luck.
