  1. Have you done any other of the recommended mods? Flapper valve, snorkel removal, O2 elims?

I have done all of these on my 08 and the improvement in low rev throttle response and mid-range torque is a noticeable improvement.

I am just in the process of ordering PAIR block off plates.

Is your experience the only one? If it is, then I suspect there may be something else afoot.

  2. hey,

don't spose you guys know if this Lil trick with the o2 eliminators will work over here in the uk?

I've had O2 eliminators on my 08 for a couple of years now. No PC fitted, no other engine mods and I do believe it makes the bike run better at low revs. Mind you, so does a good SV balance. And it's a very subjective assessment.

I'm going to try the ignition ON/OFF/ON thing mentioned above and see if that makes a difference to the quiet spot ~5krpm.

Tried it, twice, this morning, before & after refuel on the way to work (35 miles, town & highway). Whilst I'm not 100% convinced yet I'm pretty sure there is less of a "lack of drive" from 4500-6000-ish rpm. Certainly in 6th gear, the roll on from ~5krpm feels smoother and more linear.

Surely it can't be that easy?

I'm going to carry on trying this for a few more days then revert back to normal start procedure and see if I can spot a difference.

  4. Huge thanks jay-d; yesterday I completed a full bleed of the whole system on my '08 ABS. Used conventional method and it worked a treat. Brakes feel nice & tight but will have to wait until the winds drop below 80mph before trying her out.

    Excellent "How To".

Now that the weather has improved, the 6th Gen is getting a lot of miles put on it and I am very happy to report that the brakes are awesome.

Thanks for taking the time to complete that DiY guide, it's brilliant.

How are you weathering the storms over there?

All done & dusted now thanks.

4 deaths however, mainly from fallen trees.

  6. The steel brushes looks like they may be harsh on the o-rings, should it come in contact with them.

I've nearly given up on all aerosol lube and lube formulas. Most cling great; they all pick up a lot of road grime. I use synthetic 80/90 gear oil applied w/ a HF pressure oiler. I live with the fling, the more frequent application, but the chain always remains clean.

I have used a Scottoiler for 10 years on my Fi-W and whilst it is pretty much maintenance free, there is still quite a bit of oil fling onto the license plate even at the minimum setting.

When I bought my 08 Vtec last year, I was recommended to try Wurth Dry Lube and I have to admit that I far prefer it to the Scottoiler. No fling, no dirt accumulating on the chain which remains clean and only needs a quick spray every 500miles or so.

  7. I've witnessed some heated debates regarding K&N replacement filters, along the lines of: K&N allow the engine to breathe more, but that's because the holes are bigger and this let's more/bigger particles into the engine which can't be good for the engine and that K&N's can be cleaned, thus saving money over stock filters.

I don't know what the collective wisdom over here is. [shrug.gif]
