  1. Have we discovered if they are saying ALL VFR1200s are affected by this or only ones that fail a check (which check? There isn't one in either of those downloads, just replacement procedure)? Or is it only certain years or is it by a check?

I was in Norton Way Letchworth over Christmas and asked both at the service desk and Steve in the showroom. They both still claim to know nothing about this! Be interesting to see what happens next in the UK / Europe.

At least mine isn't being ridden and hopefully by the time I get back, it will all be sorted.

If there's a time limit on the recall, I may have to ask you to take it in for me. :491:

Seen there has been a recall on selected frame number VFR1200 units from Feb 2010 to Feb 2015 regarding drive shaft yoke problems which could be serious for the users if there is a failure. Although H do not state exactly that.

    Which Google translated states:-
"In the yoke joint portion of the propeller shaft , since the shape of the housing that holds the caulking pressure and bearing of bearing dropout prevention is inappropriate , bearing internal There are those that worn by the heat and high load due to friction at the time of traveling . Therefore , continuing the running intact , York joint damage , in the worst case , you can become impossible traveling , propeller shaft is to interfere with the swing arm , the rear wheel there is a risk of lock ."

    See http://www.honda.co.jp/recall/151203_3709.html

Bikes affected to date:- (Bing translation)
    Recall of the VFR1200F, VFR1200X (notification 12/3/2015)
    Recall notification number 3709
    Recall start date 12/4/2015
Defect parts (part number) power transmission equipment (propeller shaft)
Standards non-compliance status to the structural finds,
Equipment or performance condition and its causes

Replace the products your propeller shaft of the improvement measures. However, York Joint malfunction is confirmed and takes time to supply products that, as an interim measure for the time being, the propeller shaft check out what the new replace the propeller shaft.

  3. Without wishing to sound combative, what exactly do you get for your money with ASV/Pazzo etc that you don't get with some of the cheaper ones?

I have had sets of Chinese copies on both of my 800s and they look good and the feel is great. I'm struggling to understand what I would have got if I'd paid 3 or 4 times the price.

    Genuine question.

  4. I know your gallons are different from ours over here (the proper ones) but I recently rode my brand new 2014 1200F on my 85-mile commute to work and back.

On my 08 6th Gen, the same 170-mile journey, taking a very similar time, uses around 17 - 17.5 litres which is just under 45mpg which would give an empty range of ~210 miles. I have to push the 6th Gen harder to do the journey in the same time.

The 1200 went to 155 miles before the last bar flashed and then the speedo told me I had 30 miles remaining so an empty range of ~185 miles. I was enjoying the ride, pushing on a little but not having to wind it up anywhere near as much as the 6th Gen.

That's not so much of a difference to be a concern to me.

    YMMV.

  5. Definitely interested m8, price & postage may be an issue though.

I'm not a huge fan of frame sliders as I believe they can increase the amount of damage on all but virtually stationary crashes. So what's the benefit of rear hub & forksliders - do those parts get scratched/deformed if the bike goes down?

I was looking to buy the Thurn Motorsports rear wheel insert, but that has no protection role, just aesthetic but happy to support a fellow VFRD'r, just need to understand why we need sliders in those positions.

    Thanks.

  6. Which levers did you fit Skids?item number? looking at Bs-motoparts.com. gold levers/adjusters, foldable and extend in lengh to suit, around the 100 euro mark. dunno how usefull the sliding extending bit will be though.

They were ebay specials, cost around £20 each. Adjustable but not foldable. Really comfy and easy to get a good grip on.

Still have them on the 6th Gen but sold the ones on the 5th Gen.

  7. I expect to be riding rain or shine, so I do want safe grip in either conditions. I also want a comfortable ride. I still have the original OEM Bridgestones with 3500 miles on them, but they are five years old.

I don't know if it would be worth switching out for something else. I keep hearing about the Michelin P3 and P4's. How do they rate on a VFR?

Can't say how they are on a 1200 but I've had 2 sets of PR3s on my 800s and they are outstanding.

Have a new PR4 on the spare wheel waiting for my 6th Gen.

  8. UK Fleabay m8, but several hundred thousand positive recommends (albeit on many differing products).

Cost of postage alone from the US would pretty much negate the purchase of any of your recommended.

    Thanks anyway.

I was wrong. $2 shipping to UK!!!

Those are advertised as 25W....surely we need dual wattage (rear light and brake light) or does this increase its wattage for the brake light from a single source?

I believe so.. check out the "glowing" review at this post here

Hah, I see what you did there!

Well then, get them bought and let me know.

  10. Ok, well they were rubbish!

Tricky to fit in the confined space under a 6th Gen seat. The 5w part was ok - about the same as the standard incandescent bulb but the 21w brake light was hardly any brighter than the 5w and certainly nowhere near as bright as the standard bulb.

    Good job they weren't expensive.

Oh, and one failed within a couple of minutes too.

  11. That's a very good way to open up on this forum! You'll have a lot of friends, very shortly!

I have ridden a supercharged 5th Gen VFR800Fi, though I don't recall what bhp it was putting out, so I can imagine what a blown VFR is like.

    Welcome.
