Holy Socks! I need one of those. Could you elaborate on how the machine attaches to the lift? Working on my machines on the garage floor is a real pain in the rear, and everywhere else, for my 71 yr. old body.
BTW: That is quite the fine looking machine and in the fastest color. You obviously have great taste in mc's.

Congratulations Dutchy! She's looking quite fabulous for an elderly lady. Good work.

This exact thing happened to me on the way to a SumSum. We stopped to meed HS and he figured this out and solved the problem for me. The issue was with an aftermarket front sprocket. Honda's OEM sprocket has a rubber cushion attached that quiets the works and makes the assembly wider. Mine had an aftermarket sprocket that was thinner than OEM so the plastic nut eventually worked it's way out of engagement.
If one looks at a fifth gen overall there are many noise and vibration dampeners throughout the machine; even the OEM foot pedals are rubber isolated. More comfort for ones feet. Any I want to give Honda engineers kudos for the great overall design of my fifth gens.
BTW: thanks again to Miguel for fixing this for me.

Simply Wow! What a fabulous restoration of what seem to me to be an extremely obscure motorcycle. I'll bet you'll never see one of these comming at you on any random ride.
Congrats.
What's it like to ride?

Thank you for all these suggestion. I have a high-low pair from Aerostich which, being the procrastinator I am, have not been installed. Now I am inspired to get this done as soon as the glaciers depart this part of the country.

Hi raYzerman.
Vulgar1 mentioned he'd been using the K&N up until his terrible failure of that brand.
I don't know of anyone having used a recommended filter for the VFR ever having an issue like you encounterd with your FJR, this could well be due to the oil filter boss not having the hex per the FJR. So, the main message from this thread is there are numerous filter choices out there, just DON'T use the K&N with the spot weilded removal nut.
Cheers
I agree 100%. Nothing but air filters from Mother Honda for me.
P.S. Hope your are all right, with first the flooding and then the fires. Keeping you and yours in my thoughts.

I know how you do it. No criticism meant. I have slowed down condiserably though.
It's true Bent. I have moved to "Life in the slower lane; I have lost (most of) my mind". (Apologies to The Eagles.)

That's still very good mileage. Don't know how people get over 3K on any kind of rear tire.
I'm no knee dragger but I routinely get 8,000 - 10,000 miles out of the Pilot Road 2 tires I've used in the last 10 years. The fronts usually have enough tread to keep using but I prefer getting tires in a set.

Okay. I stand corrected. Having had a career in IT, where backup and restore was/is The First Law of Change, your approach is "highly logical" (says Spock).

So Dutchy, are you out to set a record for the longest thread in VFRD history? This would be quite the slog for a first time reader. Care to start new threads for each subject?
In any event, carry on.

Finally used up the tires that came on my 2014. 4444 miles surprised me they lacked feel and grip so much I figured they would last longer must have been less rubber than real tires. Put on a set of Bridgestone T31s they turn in so much better took me a while to adjust as I was putting in more turning force than needed 🙂
Went through Yosemite to scrub them in so less than spirited ride got 54 mpg amazing my 6th gen never gave me more than 44 mpg another reason to love this 8th gen.
How were the crowds on the roads. The one time I was there the traffic was really bad. That was when the government was giving out stimulous money and the roads were receiving lots of maintenance. Yosemite is quite the fabulous place.

Agree. My 8th gen. is my third and by far, best VFR. Have had a 1999, a 2006, and now standard 2014. I've run them all hard with 10W-40 synthetic (I don't care what Honda recommends on the 2014) and none used any oil. The way the 8th gen. has been ridden the last three weekends, it's a wonder it doesn't use some oil but none is used. Shoulder finally seems to be healed from rotator cuff surgery and I've come back with a vengeance in the Smoky Mtns. Age doesn't help though. I don't see how VFR's don't use oil but have no idea on the BMW.
Hey Bent, V glad to hear about your shoulder and your being back in the saddle With A Vengeance. I still remember vividly our first ride back at T-Mac.
