  1. I recently purchased a CBR929 shock from Jamie Daugherty at Daugherty Motorsports for my 1994 VFR750. It was a completely revalved and resprung unit that arrived ready to bolt on with the lower mount adapter already in place.

Today I got to take it on it first longer ride after having a chance to ride it a few times and make some very minor adjustments to the compresison and rebound settings. As an experiment to try to even things out I cut about 70-75mm from the front springs and made new preload spacers, which should make the effective rate about 0.9kg/mm. I also flushed the fork oil with a mixture of 25% 10w (atf) and 75% 5w bel-ray fork oil.

All I can say is WOW. The bike really is transformed by a better rear shock that is actually sprung for your wieght. No more wallowing, pogo-stick ride through mid-corner bumps or nervous handling on rough corners.

I can't wait to see how much better it will be when I finally get around to either having the forks revalved or installing a set of gold valves. New fork springs are in order sooner since I'm sure the cut springs wont last long as I'm using about 85% of their available travel.

If you're on the fence about the mod, DO IT. Call or email Jamie and let him hook you up. I won't say what he charged me since I think it was an extra good deal for a shock that was on the shelf and ready to go, but it's worth every penny. (Jamie if you read this and want to, feel free to tell what you charged me.)

Felt the same way when Jamie did the 929 shock for my 5th gen!!!!! Worth every penny !!!!

  2. There is a fine adj between holding the throttle in "cruise postion" and having release and spring back to throttle position. Make sure the throlle tube is clean and don't put any lub on the tube either. As a matter of fact clean tube "before" installing.

  3. Ok Flame away boys but i haven't balanced my last 2 rear tires and have felt no vibration or anything other than a smooth ride!!!! I know it goes against coventional wisdom and was dubious myself .....

And yes Ken I get out of 3rd gear LOL

  4. Ok Folks Well i can't find my trusty ol 15 50 mobil 1 here in the great white north in 4.4 or 5 litre jugs( been using it for 8 years) so i'm switching ( i think) to 5 w 40 Rotella T6. However having read this entire thread a few folks said it T6 was terrible in the tranny dept. The one thing i always noticed was the smoother shifting with the mobil 1 and am concerend the T6 is not that great in this regard so looking for more feed back on how the T6 is in the shifting dept , is it really that bad or not a concern and go for the switch????

    Thanks in advance

  6. I know i'll get flack from the michelin guys but after encountering cupping on 2 different sets of michelins , i switched to metzler and have never had cupping again. Thats my experience anyway . I think Metz use a steel band and michelin doesnt which could account for something?
