and the conversation will go something like "that looks awfully familiar to a bike owned and modded by a VFRd member"
and here it is:
-
On an OzVFR ride last weekend, 20 of us. I was leading the pack and...
...the short version is as I was coming into the carpark at the Halfway house on the Putty Road (~200km North of Sydney, Oz) at about 10-15km/h the front end skidded in gravel, fell over. Lucky that I was separated from the bike too as it didn't fall on me, maybe I jumped off? :goofy:
Kirby was right behind me and said one moment I was up, and one "oh-no" second later I was gravel surfing.
Trev straightened the gear lever, I taped the bike up with some 100mph tape, straightened the clip-ons which had twisted in on the fork leg a bit, Trev asked if I wanted him to ride it up the road a bit, but I ran it up to temp to check fan and coolant, hopped on and went a K up the road, all was good. I've got a huge bruise on my upper thigh, bike fairings are trashed on the lhs, indicator punched through the fairing, rear is untouched. Bit of a sore elbow, found it hard to push in on the left bar for left corners and was a bit tentative for the rest of the day.
Dropped the bike off at the local dealer yesterday and spoke to the repairer, he's going to quote for bike + helmet + leathers + boots, very happy I've got that extra $3k cover for my gear... just have to wait for the process to happen now.
p.s. the indicator still works...

Do you have any trouble reaching over the screen to take stills?
-
G'day RoY, might as well hijack this thread as the Phantom doesn't need it! So which bike are the R1 forks going into? KR750? Have you thought about cutting the triple clamp down a bit to give more room to fit clip-ons?
-
Any pix of these wheels on the bike?
-
Good write-up and pix. I've watched a few gixxer mirrors go pretty cheap on fleabay, if i ever get rid of the dumbo ears on my Klingon I'll be going for these sort of mirrors.
-
Nice blackness. Sort of a "Disaster Area" feel to it. (google for reference). Maybe paint the rads black? hmmm, black frame, black hub and sprocket, black triple tree, black clutch and brake fluid res.
-
nice, looking forward to seeing the finished product.
-
cheers big ears
As an aside, I see you still have those noob stickers on your tank, are they required by law over there? I hair-driered mine off the first day...
-
I have part numbers and pictures at home, I'll update this post with that infromation tonight.
Nice and neat, I'd like to see the pix and parts of that please Chris.

Man,
I just grabbed a coffee and started reading this Tokkie, and was amazed at the work you were putting into your frankenviffer. Really nicely done to suit your requirements,
But then to read it got smashed up, what a shock. Very sorry to hear it but the gods were smiling on you and you survived to tell us...
Sorry to lose you to the bimmer-side of the force, stick around though, I'm pretty sure VFR ownership is not a rule of membership

Aftermarket gsxr mirrors with the signals seem pretty cheap on ebay, I thought I had seen them for less than $50/set?
Anyone got any idea on the measurement of bolt to bolt of these gsxr mirrors? Are these the same as Safe-T used?
-
Yeah, I thought that too, based on a quick squizz at pictures. Let us know if they do fit.
As soon as I find a donor front upper faring to practice on and the indicators I'll let you know
-
Mate that is a really nice job.
I've been thinking that some zx10 indicators may have the right curve to fit in...

Beck,
Do you realise "The Phantom" project has been going for over 4 years now? So dont hold your breath for a completion date (but if we give Muz enough shit maybe he'll finish it next year)
-
Is there any way the pix from this topic can be resurrected? I've got a mate here interested in doing some front end mods, just not to the extent that I have
-
Will you stop teasing us and finish the damn thing!
-
can someone with an 00-01 get some of these Thurn ones then send me your spare lhs mirror? thanks
-
oh yeah, so there is, a nice swedish bit
-
Nice work mate, and some nice bits to go up front!
So, what have you done with the rear shock? Anything? I can vouch for an Ohlins to match the RC51 front
-
Hey Kirbs, the OzVFR gang take over the thread
see my sig? See how it says "+ stuff"? I like stuff Got a swedish bit arriving next week - always wanted to bounce up and down on a swedish bit...
-
thanks for the info mate.

You can see in the pics I posted that the new inner fender runs right back (in the last pic I'd cut it to match the rearmost section of the subframe).<snips> Pics to follow.
Pics? We dont want no damn steeenkin' pics!! We want to see the bloody bike on the road! and before we're too old to enjoy it and before all the gas runs out!!
