Guest StealthBlack04 Posted August 18, 2005 Ha! I don't even remember posting that pic, but that is definitely the best picture that my crappy cell phone camera has EVER taken...anyway, that is my secret Friday afternoon solitude spot off of Palos Verdes, CA. I will post pictures of the mount tomorrow (past midnight here now). Edit: Pics now posted below, as well as at: http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.p...=0entry159331 Enjoy, and PM or email me with any questions. Quote Link to comment

Guest StealthBlack04 Posted August 19, 2005 OK...here is how I mounted my Garmin Quest to the VFR. NO LAUGHING AT MY RUSTY HARDWARE - it was experimental until I could figure out if I liked it or not and haven't gotten around to Home Depot to get better ones yet!! This piece is a RAM mount: From the other side. The two holes at the bottom were from another idea that I had for mounting it - learn from my mistakes!! The rest of the RAM mount kit and Garmin Quest Cradle: NOTE: The RAM mount that I used comes as octagonal - I had to file the mounting base down to round, and also round out the inside of the small arm that attaches to the base at one end and to the ball mount on the Quest cradle at the other end. If left octagonal, the unit will mount at an odd angle. Unit mounted on the bike - the only problem with this setup is that it blocks the neutral indicator. Not really apparent in this pic, but when you are riding it does. At night not so bad, but during the day you will have to dip your head a bit to see it. Now, for the power piece. I drilled/moto-tooled a hole in the right faring and wired it into a non-switched outlet down by the radiator. MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET A WATERTIGHT OUTLET. I got this one at Kragens and am happy with it. I pressure wash the bike and have not had it leak, unlike the first one that I used: Here is how the Quest power adapter and speaker fits into the power adapter. You MUST angle the power adapter so that it open to the side (and not front or back), otherwise the spring action of the power adapter lid will force the speaker upwards into the travel path of the handlebars: The unit in place from the "entire bike" perspective. Feel free to PM or email me with questions. And...I can't resist...one more shot of Palos Verdes tonight at sunset: Quote Link to comment
Member Contributer sportrider 0 Posted August 19, 2005 Slick install. I like the mirror inserts, too. I may try that. You had to post that last pic, didn't you. I'm mired here in DC, and seeing green. Quote Link to comment
