This pic was taken shortly after I defeated the Dragon. He's still not dead, so I'll have to go back some day.

From the album:

To Texas and back

Those are Fieldsheer Rio saddlebags. I just checked and they are still on sale at Brockton Cycle for 59.99. I was pretty happy with them except the rain covers are a joke, as one came off and started flapping around while I was on the interstate. The saddlebags are not waterproof without them either. Also, they scuffed the heat shields on the mufflers because dirt got trapped between. Don't know if that's avoidable or not. They were otherwise very secure and seem to be of good build quality. I put some of that green rubber-like drawer liner on the plastic beside the seat to protect the paint from the straps and that worked great. And at the price you probably can't beat them.

Looks like a great trip. Did you get to ride the Cherahola Skyway?? It is just a few minutes from the Dragon at Deal's gap.

Didn't make it to the Cherahola Skyway. I really wanted to stick around and check out some more roads, but I had to get home. I rode on up to I-40 that night and stopped just before where it meets up with I-81. Then it was another full day of riding to finally get home Sat. night. Next time I'll just go up there and stay for a couple of days. Visions of those curvy roads will haunt me until I do since where I live it is flat and pretty much curveless.

I must admit I'm drooling at the sight--thanks for the photos. This Wed I'll be heading south to do the the BR Parkway on my 02 VRF with friend Markus (03 silver VRF ABS). We've got a week and the Dragon is certainly 11 miles we're looking forward to.

How was the weather? I'm packing for the worst but would appreciate your observations. :wheel:

The weather was weird when I was there. I came up through Robbinsville and it was raining there and all the way down to where the road turns and heads back up to Deal's gap. After that the sky was relatively clear and the Dragon was dry. I guess it was just spring weather in the mountains? Not sure, I'm a flatlander. But it can't rain every day, right? Hope you have a safe trip. :wheel:
