Corey
What size socket or spanner can I use to remove the fork cap for the stock fork on a 5th gen VFR? I know I can use an adjustable spanner, but I always seem to cuss up the head when I use one.
wera803
I think it is a 22mm.
viffviff
If you mean the big silver nut on the top of the fork, then it's a 32mm. A top tip is not to do it up too tight when refitting.
Member Contributer CHUCK2 Posted May 25, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted May 25, 2015 I just checked on my 98. The largest metric socket I have is 22mm & it was only slightly too small. A 23 or 24 should do it. A 15/16" socket fit perfectly. 32mm would be far too big.

I've got the original in the roof and will check the dimensions tomorrow!
viffviff
Just checked mine. As MysteryRider246 rightly said, 15/16" fits well, as does a 24mm. I don't have a 23mm but suspect it might be slightly small. I undid mine with my 24mm. Hope this helps and sorry for the duff gen first time round.
