adg44
This must be something that is characteristic of the VFR, as I noticed something similar from my 6th gen. But at 6k RPM, I start to hear a fluttering/clattering from the engine, which then goes away at 7k RPM. I have 11.5k miles on the bike only, fresh oil change with Castrol Power4T, and chain is cleaned and lubed. Anyone else notice this on theirs? Bike is running amazingly well - strong, good fuel economy (about 48 mpg), and butter smooth power delivery. Just curious what is the sound I'm hearing... - Anthony
Member Contributer Terry Posted August 13, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted August 13, 2014 5500 rpm should be when the variable air intake system (aka the "flapper") opens up. My '99 makes quite a pronounced increase in noise at this point (unless I have my noisy Delkevic muffler installed, then I can't hear the intake at all...). adg44
Oh, right. I should probably mention that the flapper is unplugged and the vacuum line capped.
