Due to back injuries and....new offspring....my 2004 VFR has been in storage for about 4 years. I just sold my bike and need to move it to the new house, on a trailer. Ideally, I'd like to restart it - if its not too much effort. 1 - the battery will be dead, so I'll get a new one. 2 - the fuel was NOT drained, but an additive was put in. I'll syphon out all I can on the assumption the gas is all gone bad. Then add in new stuff a - should I put in any additives to clean out lines / injectors? b - some articles indicated replacing the fuel lines. 3 - anything else I need to worry about? Thanks Olaf

So I rode my bike into work and when I went to start her for ride home. Seemed like my battery was dead... no problem there’s a jump box... famous last words... I get bike started and ride home about ten minutes. Park. Next day go to start bike. No power. Smh look down and notice my harness from ignition and start stop switch are melted and grounded out... uh o... well it’s early spring and I had just put new tires on and recovered my saddle.... so I’m thinking I’ll band aid this and just re solder ... pull everything off start soldering then decide, maybe cheap is not the way to go... So I order an aftermarket ignition (still being cheap... fu*%&$) And put it and a used switch back on. Nothing no power lights at all.... Look at main fuse looks ok. Look through ignition info that came with it, realized that this ignition works w vfr but not wired/connected as such... unplug, finish soldering original toasty ignition. Plug in, Nothing... Well that was last year... Fortunately I have another bike so I was able to ride at least part of the season... (on my bike I don’t have a new set of tires on :(. ) So my question is.... 1.What might I have f’d up either by using a boost box to jump? 2. By shorting out with improperly wired aftermarket ignition 3. Other than main fuse any other fuses or electrical components I should test first? rectifier? computer? Thanks for any insight. Much appreciated!

Just sold my '99 VFR to someone (still have my '98) the bike was always perfect for me except one voltage regulator failure replaced with a Rick's unit. New owner says lights come on strong but starter won't engage. Just we click or weak whining sound. I suspect bad voltage to the starter but could be bad solenoid. Any ideas out there. He thinks I sold him a bad bike.

2007 Honda VFR 800 The bike quit a few times randomly while riding it. By the time I got to the side of the road it would start right back up One day when I rode to work: · No issues on the way in (20 minutes) · Bike wouldn't run more than 100 yards without quitting after work. o When it quit the FI light wasn't on o Cycling the key and kill switch didn't do anything to get the pump to prime. The FI light only flashes as the starter turns the engine over. o Hitting the start switch the engine would turn over, but never fire o After letting it sit (~5 minutes) without touching anything the fuel pump would prime and light would come on o You could then start the bike and ride ~100 yards before it quit again. o All other electronics seem to be working correctly all the time (electronic speedometer, lights, etc.) o After loading the bike into the truck and taking it home the FI light won’t come on and the pump won’t prime….even after cooled off. Since the FI light flashes when hitting the starter, I’d think the fuel pump isn't the problem but rather something is preventing power from getting to the light or pump. What’s a good place to start looking for issues?

So rode to work no problems, about 12miles. Left work, bike wouldn't start, heard fast clicking like a dead battery. Cluster was lighting up, horn nice and strong. It's a new battery which is kept on a tender. Got it started by popping clutch, but noticed some hesitation/lag on throttle...didn't seem quite right. Came to red light and bike shutoff and wouldn't start back up. Same clicking sound. Battery 12+vdc. And wouldn't start with trying to get a runny and pop clutch like it did first time. Lots of experience and knowledge out there....what are some thoughts ? Rectifier? Just got the bike back home from tow. Appreciate any ideas/tips...thanks

Hello all, My '98 VFR's battery is dead and won't start, even though I've been running it constantly over the winter to keep it charged. Here's the whole story: I haven't actually ridden it since the summer, but I've run it probably 6 times since then for about 15 minutes each in hope of keeping the battery charged. (I ran it in Neutral though, I'm thinking now if the alternator runs off of the driveshaft then none of this would have actually charged the battery unless I was in gear). I started it again today, it turned over a bit slower than the last time but started. Did some circles around the parking lot for 20 minutes (in gear of course), shut it off. When I started it again, it barely turned over, a clear sign the battery is just drained and the starter is still getting current when I hit the switch. Why didn't the battery charge? Was it because I ran the engine in neutral? I know the rectifiers on these bikes tend to go bad is that related? Thank you for the help, apologies for my relative lack of knowledge, this is my first bike

86 Interceptor 500 Starting Issue, possibly a fueling problem? I have bought a 1986 Interceptor 500 and it has some sort of starting issue. When it is warm, it starts well. There seems to be no problem. However, when it is cold it is very hard to start. It starts, runs for a little while and then gradually dies. However if I use the choke, and by judicious very small throttle movements, it may be able to be got running. I am reluctant to start disassembling anything until I have a better idea of what may be the problem. This model has no fuel pump and appears to have no lines going to the fuel tank other than that which is connected from the tank to the carbs to delver the fuel. I wonder if anyone here has any idea as to where to start looking. Thanks
