  1. And it must be contagious....... Thank you Keny!!! Went to look at 2 today, 1st one was grotty beyond belief so I didnot even make an offer The other one was the other side of NL so all in all a 300 mile day today. 44k km's/27.5K miles From the year I started working, 1986 Came with a set of new Bridgestone's, purrs like a small lion.... The OEM indicators are gone unfortunately.... 😞 Early rise tomorow for a 7AM start of a mc tour with some friends; they will be surprised no doubt! Early start to avoid the mass of HD and HD clones clogging up the dikes so no iron butt off the cuff but a good spin nevertheless.
  2. Having read the pro's and cons on the types of material and sintered the current standard, the question is what would be wise for OEM 1986 brake rotors in terms of wear on them? Anyone with experience to say "do/don't use sintered on rotors from that era"? Also, anyone actually used Chinese brake pads and has some facts to share? The web is full of "they are made from kitty litter", but seeing how much expensive, high tech motorcycles were chucked in the kitty litter in MotoGP and SBK, this may not be such a bad thing... I know and value my safety, but with brake pads being produced a 100 years, how bad are these Chinese pads?
  3. Ok, I know that the VF's damper ord design is 30+ years old so I should not expect them to behave like a monden cartridge... but with the back sorted out, my attention moves to the front.. Daugherty and Racetech offer "emulators" for around $165 Anyone here ever actually had these on his/her VF500? Worth the expense? any modifications required to the internals? Or is it simply remove sorings, drop in emulators put in springs? I have never taken forks apart so "drop in" sounds good TRAC, the VF has TRAC; does this negate the use of emulators? The stanchion do "stick" a bit on rebound at the moment.
  4. sang al Stewart and with freezing temperatures in our forecast, I took puma out for probably her last ride in 2015. No riding in December-February gives me a tax break....... So I hope you enjoy some pictures of my backyard Aye, it is coming.... Yeah, plenty centuries old windmills left in the Netherlands..... Work continues for others while I am out to play.. But clouds were gathering alright..... (as I parked up it literally started to rain 10 seconds later..) Some dike roads you DO NOT want to swerve off..... aka "do not miss the apex..." Basking in the last sun
  5. With only one spot available in the garden shed (not heated, it does get humid), it means that this year I have to choose... Do I put redslut in the shed or the puma? For the other space is outside under a cover.... Our winters get cold and wet... So what would you advise on prepping the "outside" bike? Take out the battery and top up the fuel tank for sure, but remove as much plastic as possible or leave that on? Spray all metal parts with WD40? Or what? I'm leaning toward the VF in shed.....
  6. does anyone know for a fact that early VF500 (84 F or the Magna) system will fit on a later 86 VF500F2? Came across a dirty, dirt cheap set as a spare for when the oem gives way. degreased and wirebrushed it to reveal googled it but found little definative. The really crappy mufflers (piles of rust came out) are much lighter and a bit shorter than the VF500F2 ones (cheers Timmay!) They will fit on the cutrrent collector box will not use them -they are really grotty-, but it might help identify the system They are not slash cut like picture of the Magna; the rear looks the same as mine so I suspect VF500F Your opinions please, for I donot mind storing stuff but if I -hopefully in many years- find out it does not fit....
  7. Fitted a different screen to redlut and fitted Timmay's pipes to the VF, so both had to be taken for a spin.. \
  8. Upon buying my VF, I knew the rear shock was in a bad shape (after almost 30 years....) Did a bit of research and found a shop that not only quoted me a good price and TAT, run by a man that used to race himself and for decades was the suspension man for GP teams that won WC's/worked in the industry. A variety of brands are available for the VF so we discussed the options. Andre will work on/sell what the customer decides, be it Ohlins, Hagon, Hyperpro whatever. He found his old racer that had been stationary for 15 years, bought it back and restored it and what did he fit to this beauty? Right! YSS He visits the factory in Thailand regularly, he showed me some pictures of the factory. Very reassuring; I bought and fitted a Wilbers years ago and the build quality is on par if not better (Wilbers produced a poorly setup series, I had one, as did douglasthecook....). Normal TAT is 4 weeks for units build in the factory; as andre stocks components, one could be made to order locally. So, let's get the old one out shall we? The beauty and the beast.... (that is coolant, not oil..) and having checked it when it was still on the bike, what is your opinion on the OEM Andre?? Much nicer!! The shock has 10mm height adjustability, we settled for +3 (VF has a linkage system Luvverly! OEM RR, touch wood!!! In a back room Hurried back to avoid a massive rainstorm (failed...) but on the short stretch of curvy roads the difference was superb. now, the front end stanchions are sticking a bit so that is on the list to be looked at (as are the head bearings..)
