  1. Hello everyone, Fairly new to the forum as I have owned my VFR less than a year, but I am looking for some help with a no start issue. I took it on a trip out to Colorado in the second week of June. Trip was 3400 miles in total and it ran great the whole trip. About a week after I got home I washed it up good in the driveway. Bike started fine in the driveway after it was washed and I rode it back into the garage. 5 days later I wen to fire it up and it cranks over, but doesn't start. Thought the battery might be dead so I charged it up, but still a no go. I haven't had much time to dig into it since, but I plan to get after it next week and I'm looking for some suggestions on what to look at first? Are there any known causes for a sudden no start? Could something have gotten wet when it was washed? When I turn the key to ignition, the dash lights all come on and I can hear the fuel pump priming. The engine turns over smooth, just doesn't start. Thanks for any help in advance.
  2. First off I’m completely new here so I hope I’m going about this correctly and posting in the right spot. Ok so about 2 weeks ago I went and hit the triple nickel in Ohio (state rt 555) and on my way back I came out of the store and my fuel pump wouldn’t prime which has happened in the past but not for years after repairing the burnt fuse connection so I wiggled some wires and said a few prayers and got her to prime again but then it still didn’t want to start. Had to feed it some throttle to get it to do anything and still all it wanted to do was only barely stay running on 1 cylinder and I had to hold about half throttle just to do that. After letting it sit for another 10-15 minutes or so I went back out to try it again and voila magically it started right up and ran perfect for the 200 miles i had to ride to get home. Turned the bike off and restarted it with absolutely no trouble probably 5 or 6 times on the way home but now it hasn’t ran since, just wants to only run on one cylinder now and only with lots of throttle input to get it to do that. Smells kinda flooded like that raw fuel smell afterwards. Pretty sure All my grounds are good, I just went thru the ones under the tank and the harness recall has been done. Switched ECU’s also with no luck…. Any ideas? Seems like it almost has to be wiring related. ANY info/help will be GREATLY appreciated!
  3. Hi everyone, first post and hopefully in the right section. I am having trouble starting my '89 FK. It was running perfectly a couple of days ago until I changed the exhaust downpipes to a SS Motad system. There is now no spark or voltage to the coils and the fuel pump is not moving any fuel. The starter and engine turn and all lights and fuses are good. The fuel pump works when connected directly to the battery. I intially thought the problem was with the fuel cut out relay but I then checked for a spark and nothing. I then suspected the kill switch but that is working fine. Looking at the wiring diagram it could be the side stand switch but the bike is in neutral and I have tried with the side stand up - still nothing. Any ideas? I am going to remove the tape around the wiring loom and check for any breaks. Should there be a complete circuit between the two pins going to the kill switch from the wiring loom (female) red connector (Black and Black/White wires)? Really stuck and if anyone has any ideas they will be greatly received.
  4. I have a quite peculiar situation with my 93' vfr. Put a good 5k miles on the bike the past couple years, only issue was the R/R and I re-wired it and it worked great, I have an autocraft Lithium battery in the bike with 260CCA. so it has plenty of oomph.. I rode home in pouring rain a few days ago, then covered it when i got home, and rode the next day in nice dry sunshine, ran fine about 60 miles round trip, then I parked and covered it again, the next day, it poured again, and the morning after that I hopped on my bike to go to work and less than 1/4 mile down the road the bike starts getting sluggish in response to the throttle, almost like a battery dying, but it felt directly related to throttle so i thought it could be a carb issue, but i keep my bike seafoamed over half the time. a fresh tank of gas with seafoam was sitting in the bike when i parked it last. After the bike died, I had plenty of battery to try turning over the engine, numerous times, and it kept firing up and struggling hard while i tried to keep it feathered with gas until it got worse and worse and less and less firing until it no longer fired, just turning over. The battery was still at 3/3 full indication on the meter button on the battery. I am thinking that it cant be the carburetor because when i turn the bike over, i can smell the gas in the exhaust that kicks out when it turns over. The starter solenoid has a click upon initial depression of the starter button but the bike turns over just fine, all lights stay bright, the battery is nowhere near low and the issue persisted when i got it home and charged the battery to full again to make sure. All fuses are fine, I do have all LED blinkers and tail lights and on the mirrors but those have all been in the bike for hundreds of miles. no parasitic draws on the battery, it started fine that morning but just died on the road, the R/R wires are all solid and no heat damage is visible at all. i dont know if the Coils are damp. but if they were the bike shouldn't have started in the first place that day. I don't see how a bike that i ride every day that faithfully starts can just fall flat on its face after it starts down the road. the fuel pump and carbs are getting gas, the engine doesn't sound like it's getting spark but the starter is turning the engine over like crazy... no lag or sluggish turns either. anyone have any savvy to this rediculous situation?
